My friends and I were looking for good restaurants open on New Year's Day. The original Pho restaurant that we wanted to go was not open. Yelp showed that Halmae Noodle had quite great reviews and they were already open at the time so we decided to review it. Our party of 7 came there at 12 noon and there was perhaps another person/hunt there. The place is not very large, but we still felt socially distant, as the larger table where we were was on one side of the room, and the rest of the small tables on the other, and everyone had partitions between them. The menu is mainly noodles in soup, with the exception of some rice dishes and their appetizers. At the beginning they brought us every little cabbage salad with a light ginger dressing, which was a nice start to the meal. They also brought a super fresh banchan they were from kimchi, kimchi daikon, and this other daikon in any kind of sesame oil marinade that I really liked. For appetizers, here is everything we ordered: baked dumplings were great. They were crispy, but not too oily. You have a choice of beef or chicken and we went with beef. It comes with 10 per order Seafood pancakes pretty good, but I don't remember that there is a lot of seafood in since Kimchi pancake I didn't love this I think the Kimchi made it a bit soggy For my main I had the handmade noodles with fish cake. The broth was great and it was very soothing after a late NYE night. I was afraid it would be too fishy or like that, but it was perfect. The noodles were just fine for me, but that's because I don't love delicate noodles. These were thick small square leaves that almost reminded me of the texture of these thick, miraculous wrappers. By the way, these bowls of noodles are HUGE and are probably enough for two people. My friend got the shell soup and I was amazed at the number of shells she fished from her bowl. We all ordered our own and we all had a full quad container to take home. My husband was the only one who didn't get noodles. He had the kimchi fried rice and you can't go wrong with it. Definitely want to come back to try some of their other soups, but next time I get the regular noodles. Nevertheless, I am glad that Halmae Noodle was our first meal for the new year.
I'm here to eat #20, Yukgaejang Kalguksu, for a year. At my summit I would come here weekly to get my fav noodles! The staff is friendly, efficient, and now remember to give me extra all my fav secondary dishes! I am a big fan of this place and made friends and family to be consistent customers.
Fast comfort food. After a long trip we stopped by hoping to get a quick meal. We sat right away and our order lasted a few minutes. Food came in good time and was delicious!
The young man and lady are very friendly, the broth is thick and the noodles are chewy. It seems to be handmade noodles. It is a real kalguksu restaurant that tastes much better than the M kalguksu restaurant in Fort Lee.
