Unfortunately we chose a night where there was just the chef and the manager to wait on us customers . We were told service was slow . It was we arrived at 7-30 and left at 10-30 , the meal itself was good apart from my steak , the chargrilled part of the steak was burnt and fried were tough . I wanted to complain but because it was taking ages to be served with our food it couldn’t be bothered . I have to commend the owner for all his effort he put in , in the circumstances
We found the Grapevine three or so years ago but since then the food standard has declined somewhat. The starters were good but the mains were disappointing. My wife had Sea Bass with caper butter, whichturned out to be cold and insipid with no evidence of capers. The manager insisted that the chef had 'reduced ' them but the taste was simply lacking. The potatoes looked sad and were similarly tasteless. Will look elsewhere for better value in future.
The new chef is doing a great job. The starters in particular were outstanding as were the desserts. The front of house staff are very good the right mixture of professionalism and informality. The great thing is that they welcome feedback.Update.... They have since closed for a re vamp so now an unknown quantity
Arrived after a long day for dinner with my wife with a perfectly valid groupon (had booked and confirmed by phone). We sat down only to be told 2 minutes later that they wouldn't honour the groupon on a Friday night (not in the T&Cs) and we'd either have to pay or leave. We were too tired to argue so left feeling very embarrassed. Sent an email to complain the next day. Didn't even get a response. Very very disappointing.
