Bidrage med feedbackLove this place. Vegan Thali with Dahl, Curried chickpea and veg. Saffron rice, salad and poppadom for $10. Brilliant value and super filling.
Great place for vegetarians like me. The food was quite tasty and resonably priced. Go for the standard meal and its a loaded plate for just 12$.<br/ <br/ I would highly recommend this place specially if you are a pure vegetarian like me... : <br/ <br/ Only flipside is that it shuts very early 7pm to be specific. But food is great and very well priced too.
If you are after budget, tasty indian styled vegetarian cusine in Northbridge, I'd recommend Govindas. You have to take it for what it is... veggie stews, pakoras and Samosas (think soggy overcooked veggies in the stewsbut still, for the price... it's a hearty meal on offer, with authentic indian spices and flavours, and super-cheap. Run by Hare Krishnas staff are kind and portion sizes generous. Great student food.
I definitely wanted to try this place for lunch after reading all the positive reviews. I can tell you that it didn't disappoint at all whatsoever. It met all my expectations like I imagined.<br/ <br/ I had a friend from interstate showing him around city so I definitely wanted to take him some place nice for lunch. Even though it was a hot day, eating lunch here was very pleasant. I ordered the standard main course meal for me and my friend. It costed $12 each but if your a student it costs $10. For the price I think it's really worth it. There are extra sides that they offer as well. Samosas, pakora and etc which don't cost more than $3-$4.<br/ <br/ Now onto the lunch, with the main course you get dhal curry, aloo gobi (cauliflower and potato curry), rice, red dipping sauce(don't know what it's called, sorry) and cous cous salad (photos attached). Then for dessert you get halva with hot custard. In my first mouthful, everything I ate tasted divine. When I looked at the portion size they were giving, I honestly thought it wouldn't fill me up since I have a very big appetite. But I was wrong, even with all the curries and rice all placed in a steel plate it was more than enough to satisfy me. I felt full and satisfied by the end of my meal.<br/ <br/ The dhal curry and aloo gobi tasted fantastic. The red dipping sauce had an excellent balance of sweet and sourness to it, it all goes well when mixed with rice and dhal or even with aloo gobi as well. I ordered an extra veg samosa on the side which costed me an extra $3 but it was totally worth it. The samosa is nice and big. The pastry is flaky, crunchy and soft. But as soon as you eat it you realize it's freshly made and tastes delicious. Normally I'm not a fan of samosas but after eating it, I was big fan of it.<br/ <br/ Lastly after the main course comes the desert. I cannot tell you how good this desert was because it blew my mind away. The halva mixed with the hot custard just melted in my mouth. Me and my friend were big fans of it. We were seriously considering ordering another one considering the small portion size but we just devoured it very slowly to experience this delicious desert.<br/ <br/ Also with the main course, you can drink unlimited cold Lassi or water. The lassi is super fresh and not extremely sweet. It was really good. It had a great blend of sweetness from the fruit and milk. I was throughly impressed with it. Excellent refreshing drink considering how hot the day was.<br/ <br/ In general, a great little restaurant from Hare Krishna located in Northbridge. The interior is good but has no Ac inside it. Since it was a hot day, I thought I couldn't last in this restaurant without an Ac but I guess the cool draft of air gave a cool ambience inside the restaurant when seated. Only minor complaint I have is to make the tables bigger and sturdy because the table me and my friend were sitting on was shaky and not stable. So get better and decent sized tables.<br/ <br/ I guess the grace of Hare Krishna is within us which makes us forget about these small things. Furthermore, the staff are very friendly and helpful. You can eat here peacefully and really feel the love and effort put in the food because it tastes delicious as you eat each bite of it. You really feel the presence of serenity, calmness and positivity after having your lunch here.<br/ <br/ Even with a decent portion size which I thought wouldn't be enough for me, it certainly filled me up and made me feel great. So I highly recommend visiting this place and bring your family and friends. I'll definitely be back here again. Hare Krishna!<br/
Brilliant but not for Everyone. I am not a big fan of Indian food but ate on a number of occasions at the Hare Krishna restaurant in Melbourne and enjoyed it. The food at Govinda's is very similar and just as enjoyable. However, it did not appeal to my wife at all. Features that really appeal to me are the price, a more than reasonable $10 for lunch which consisted of a number of items including salad, rice and dahl (I think). Folks do not go here expecting haute cuisine. It is not and nor is the presentation where all the items are served on one metal tray which you drop off at another after eating. Not flash or classy but excellent tasting. For about the same price as a Big Mac Combo meal why wouldn't you go here
