Cafe Marseille - Northampton

Booked a table for a rare night out as a group of four. One other group of four were the only other customers. Wine order taken reasonable promptly followed by our food order. 40 mins later had to go ask for some more wine as hadn’t been checked on once since. After another 25 minutes some of our food arrived but not all. The salads arrived with no dressing so we asked for some. I was offered mayo or pesto dressing for a nicoise but specifically asked for a French dressing. Some more food arrived followed by some pesto dressing when I reasked for a french dressing was asked what that was?! Brought out some oil balsamic. A fellow diner’s duck was tough served with cold potatoes so that was sent back and a soup reordered in the hope it would be quick, it wasn’t. The other table of customers also had issues, notably ordering sea bass fillets being brought out a whole fish. Instead of the chef taking it off the bone for her they made her order something else crazy waste of food. The waitress seemed to have limited authority when we asked to speak to someone else was told the chef couldn’t speak any English. She was understandably upset at neither set of customers being happy whilst she wasn’t the most attentive waitress I did feel for her being left with out the training or skills to deal with things. How can a restaurant with the capability to seat about 30 not cope with 8 diners? She did ring the owners who were going to come but a little later we were told they couldn’t make it. We paid for the two bottles of wine left disappointed not to return.

Beautiful small place, good atmosphere great cocktails and nice eating, recommend visit

The fact that they sent me a confirmation email to say that they are happy to see me, I came around 1825 for an 1830 booking to find a note on the door that says “we are closed for renovation.” as they can imagine, was not best satisfied as it was booked for a jubile.

We had a nice time and the atmosphere was brilliant. I personally found the music too loud for the conversation. the singer has an enormous voice and it is very charming to enjoy dinner with such a beautiful music, but it makes it difficult to hear each other food wise we were disappointed by our dry and a bit hard and tasteless as a result. the rest was good. but overall the experience was positiw and we will return as we appreciate the environment, service and efforts. a

I excavated some oil balm. a diver escape was served hard with cold kartoffels, so that was sent back and a suppe reordered in the hope, it would be fast, it wasn't. the other table of the customers also had problems, especially the order of sea bass fillets from a whole fish. instead of the cook that took it out of the bone for her, they made her order something else crazy eating waste. the waitress seemed to have only a limited autority when we asked to talk to someone else, said the cook couldn't speak English. she was understandably annoyed that both customers were happy while she was not the most attentive waitress I felt for her that she was left with the training or skills to deal with things. how can a restaurant with the ability to sit about 30, not cope with 8 diners? they annoyed the owners who wanted to come, but a little later we said they couldn't make it. we paid for the two bottles wein left disappointed not back.
