Bidrage med feedbackI took my aunt to the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal to go to Victoria and we decided to stop at Westview Restaurant for lunch at the last minute. It is located in Westview Shopping Centre with plenty of parking. This family-run restaurant has been a fixture in North Vancouver for decades and is well-known for its authentic Szechuan and Cantonese dishes. To our surprise, they also offer a Dim Sum lunch. The restaurant layout is simple but clean and airy, and we felt comfortable with their Covid guidelines. The menu has a wide variety of choices, but the Dim Sum menu was quite standard. I found that some of the Dim Sum items seemed to be frozen and had a strong MSG taste, making my mouth feel dry. Some of the steamed Dim Sum was overcooked, such as the Chicken's feet and spareribs. However, the dishes were tasty and flavorful. My aunt enjoyed every bite, especially since it was easy on her dentures. The seafood Congee was delicious with a good variety of real seafood. While it may not be the best Dim Sum restaurant on the North Shore and a bit on the expensive side for the quality, it is convenient to the ferry terminal with a friendly owner. If I find myself in the area again, I may return to try their signature Spicy Crab dish. Overall, we left the restaurant feeling full and happy.
I usually do dine in but the last times I have done take out. The first time I ordered almond chicken not sure what it was but I thought I will try it. I have to use transit so it wasn't possible to take...it back. This time I ordered shrimp fried rice paid for it in cash. The lady told me it would be ready in to mins I said that was fine because I was going to do a little shopping. When I came back my food was ready the a man was helping me, He told me I hadn't paid for the food and I said I had and a lady had help me. He gave me the food and just as I was leaving he came chasing after me and demanded payment when I again told I had paid he started screaming at me and tried taking the food out of my granny cart. I stopped him and he said he was going to call the police and i said go ahead. He then turned around and walked away from me. I yelled at that I will never enter this restaurant again and left. By the way I am years old and go to this place all the time. BEWARE
We have been loyal patrons of Westview Restaurant for years, but stopped dining there when the pandemic hit. This is our first takeout order from them since then, and the food was fantastic. Our favorite dishes, Shanghai Thick Noodle Squid with Spicy Salt and Pepper, Sweet and Sour Pork, and Wonton Soup, were all delicious. The portions were large and everything arrived hot. We really enjoyed our meal. Thank you!
I ordered prawns with snow peas for take out. The Prawns were raw. When I phoned to advise the restaurant, mostly to prevent getting anyone sick as well as informing the chef, I was met with complete disinterest. I was told it was meant to...be like that because it is a cold dish. Raw? I eat at this restaurant often, have never been dissatisfied. When I explained to the person on the phone that I fear that someone will get sick his response was it will be better next time. No acknowledgement of the issue. Very bad for business and I won’t keep this to myself.
For awesome Chinese restaurants, go to Richmond or certain areas in Vancouver. But on the North Shore, choices are slim and the quality isn't as good. Case in point, this location in a busy little shopping mall with tight parking spots... my full size pick...had a tough time squeezing into a space. First impressions were decent. Busy on a Saturday lunch with most tables occupied. We ordered pork with black bean, squash with nuts, and BBQ pork buns. The buns were smallish with a too sweet filling for my taste. The pork with black bean was alright although a small dish. And the squash was not bad... quite tasty. But nothing stood out. It was just an alright average experience. Service was adequate, price point within the range of other similar restaurants and decor was pleasant. But in a foodie city, better options abound but they are across the bridge. So if you don't want to go too far, this will do. stars.
