Bidrage med feedbackWe popped in for a light lunch on a Friday just before 1pm. 2 out of 3 of the party were after a soft drink, which were both advertised on the board behind the till. Unfortunately, these were both out of stock. One of us ordered a cup of tea and we were shocked to note the price, which was the same as a cup of coffee. No extra hot water was provided until asked and so a very small pot of tea is provided for the price to begin with. During our visit, the tea cup was accidently knocked, resulting in a spillage. The gentleman helped us to it clear up, however we were not offered a new tea cup or saucer and so had to use a saucer full of tea, until the lady noted and gave us paper towels to soak up the split tea on the saucer. We all wanted to order a panini for lunch, but were told these were all sold out by 1pm (on a busy Friday lunchtime). We all opted for toasted sandwiches instead, however we had to wait around 20-25 minutes for 3x toasted sandwiches and unfortunately they were very basic. The bread was just about toasted, the tomato chucks were far to big for the small sandwich, which meant some bread was soggy and the onion slices were huge and unedable as a result. The tuna was also not mixed with any mayo, so with cheese, it was rather dry. The side salad was very basic with no salad dressing and they all came out looking different on the 3x plates. For the price of £9 each, they didn't even come with crisps. We understand the price of everything has increased dramatically and wouldn't mind paying £9, if what was provided was of good quality and on par with what is served elsewhere. At the end of our lunch, we were not asked if everything was OK and I wonder if that was because the waiting staff knew it wasn't?
Visited Hill Road shops and saw this lovely coffee shop. Ordered an Americana and one shot Latte plus a piece of coffee cake and piece of lemon cake. We sat outside next to what I can only describe as a mouthy nagging old woman and her hen pecked husband. They went inside and ordered after us. As soon as the waitress came out with a tray of food, “mouthy madam” said it’s our order. She then tasted the coffee and decided it wasn’t hers (she had to have decaf) nor the coffee cake which she hadn’t ordered. What turned out, it was actually our order. She complained to the waitress who realised it was our coffee and duly brought the Latte over to me. I refused to accept and asked for a fresh cup. Once we had our correct order, our coffees were hot and tasty and both cakes were delicious (both cakes were moist and tasted of coffee and lemon). To be fair to the cafe, the lady serving inside was under duress as a member of staff had rung in sick and she did apologise in advance for any delay in us getting our order. The extra delay was down to “mouthy madam” confusing the waitress and our order ending up on the wrong table to begin with.
We went into the cafe for lunch today, was immediately impressed by the decor and the hospitable greetings. A member of staff were helpful in finding a highchair for our little one. After checking the menu and chalkboard specials we decided on a Chicken/Mango/Mushroom curry and a bacon, brie and cranberry panini but unfortunately the curry was sold out but not removed from the board. I ended up settling for bacon and grilled tomato on sourdough which is precisely what I got. The bacon, brie and cranberry panini that the wife had was pleasant even if a little too much cranberry in it, for the sourdough I don't know where to begin, the toast was toasted well, there was too much butter on the toast leaving it with the effect of a greasy pool on the toast, you had a rasher of bacon which barely covered two thirds of the toast and half a grilled tomato slapped on top (if they had sliced it then it would of been more presentable and easier to eat). The side salad was rather random, you had the normal items like lettuce leaf, cherry tomato, peppers and red onion and then a slice of melon added on (worked for us as our one year old took delight in eating it). To add to it all we had to pay over £25 for these two meals, a small latte that was over flowing the cup to make a pool in the saucer and a crusha mildhake
This place is a real find! Excellent lunch, freshly prepared and a friendly and welcoming staff team. We definitely be recommending to freinds and family and visiting next time we're in Clevedon
We loved the pretty decor, the service was good mid morning, cake and lattes delicious. But two BIG gripes: very small tea cups for lattes were not good value at all as charged as much as at the best coffee chains for a good sized mug we sat inside by the window and the extremely loud noise from the constant bashing into the knocking box was deafening. Proper straight sided mugs and a rubber knock box would have given us a great visit.
