Le Hatley Relais Châteaux

Friendly restaurant with a classic and calm atmosphere. Service ok. The dishes were very good and well presented. Very nice wine list. Small downside for me to start with a big piece of bread.

We mentionned that my partner was pregnant, the staff managed to accommodate except for fish eggs in the amuse geule, good thing we checked because she almost ate them. One of the servers also laughed at us diring his explanation of the service, which made us both uncomfortable.

An utterly superb, nearly 3-hour dining experience, the memory of which my wife and I will relish for years. We had the degustation” (tasting menu with accompanying wine pairing. The service was impeccable and the creativity and presentation of each dish was brilliant. Widely-spaced tables provided a perfect ambiance. (Note: I mistakenly gave a 2-star rather than 1-star for noise but the website did NIT allow me to rectify my typo. . If you are going to eat out once this year, do so here!!

Things didn't quite come together at Le Hatley. A very traditional dining room in a very traditional old resort promised high end dining, but failed at the basics. We visited on a long weekend in winter. Two thirds of the food was delicious, but some was just off. The sablefish (black cod) was strangely fishy tasting, and the meringue in the pear dessert was actually rancid. The sommelier took forever to take our wine order; and after pouring two very stingy glasses was never seen from again. We'd have ordered another glass with dinner and another for dessert but we were abandoned. We asked a waiter to bring the sommelier, but that never came to pass.. The restaurant was not full, so that doesn't explain what happened. To the managers, it seems perhaps that you are resting on your past achievements. Given your achievements and how proudly you display them, perhaps a bit of arrogance has crept in? The experience we had did not live up to your prior acclaim.

Spent our 15th anniversary last night and it was phenomenal. Amazing staff, delicious food and extremely warm and welcoming dining room. Can't wait to try the hotel rooms and come back for the full experience !
