Bidrage med feedbackDoes this restaurant even exist now? The sign in front of the address was definitely not the same. That should have been a warning. I foolishly ordered the sweet and sour prawns. Small not very tasty prawns in a thick fried breading covered in a deluge of sticky gross sauce. Think Panda Express. Gross. Would not recommend.
The food was average, you can't said that it's bad taste, but definitely not what I expected. The portion was small, and the price was too high for such dish. However, I still rated 1.5/5 as the waitress was nice . Aside from that, it's really not worth for it
I don't know why people complaining. Thai is the only style of food that I could eat three meals a day for THE REST of my life and be deliriously happy. The Thai create dishes, whose ingredients, when separated from the whole, stink and look inedible, but when joined with the others creates an explosion of flavours that leave you desiring only that food for THE REST OF your life. Chilli Planet is one of the nicest Thai place in Dunedin.
I had a few issues with my experience at Chilli Planet. First off they don't allow customers to BYO beer, only wine. I cannot think of a good reason for this policy. It seems absurd to me that I'm allowed to bring an $8 750ml bottle of 13% wine but not a $10 500ml bottle of 6% craft beer. Also their policy of not letting you order a starter without a main. I was with a group and wanted to order the $20 combination starter to split with a friend but wasn't allowed to without ordering a main. This brings me to my third issue: Everything seems pretty overpriced. The cheapest dish is $15.50 and most of them are $18.50. This is why I wanted to order a starter instead of a main. That sort of pricing would be acceptable of there was anything remarkable about the establishment but there really isn't. Too many hard surfaces means it's constantly too loud, the cutlery feels cheap, the diners must go up and order for themselves... The food was good, but not spectacular. The service was at least friendly and reasonably fast. I had a few issues with my experience at Chilli Planet. First off they don't allow customers to BYO beer, only wine. I went there many time to grab take away lunch. The food was good. Pad Thai and Stirred fried chili beef are my favorite dishes. However, the waitress has less knowledge about the food. She could not recommend me the new dish when I asked her. One of my vegetarian friend also asked about the ingredient of the curry dishes, she couldn't tell us anything. So we ended up order vegetarian fried rice for my friend. What pitty! Because my friend was keen on trying Thai green curry.
