Peaks Lane Fish

I tried this restaurant for the first time after seeing a sign on the side of the road claiming it had won a best chippy award. Since our local chip shop in Holton Le Clay is rarely open, we decided to give this place a try. Upon arrival, I was skeptical about the fact that they were still advertising an award they won six years ago. Additionally, they only accepted cash, which was inconvenient as there was no working cashpoint nearby. We ordered fish and chips four times, sausage and chips twice, and two portions of mushy peas. The fish portions were thin tail ends and seemed to be the cheapest cuts available. The fish appeared to still be alive in the boxes as they had eaten half of the chips on the way home. The batter was crispy but overly greasy, leaking oil into the corners of the boxes. The mushy peas were thick and stodgy, not to my preference. Overall, the experience was disappointing. Despite this, I appreciate that they were open on a Friday evening, unlike the chip shop in Holton Le Clay. It would be beneficial for our village to have another chip shop open at more convenient times. Additionally, it would be best for the owners to put in more effort if they hope to win back the award they received six years ago. The comparison to a political party advertising their power from a decade ago is fitting.

This restaurant offers outstanding freshness, quality, service, and value for money. We ordered two small fish, one serving of chips, one curry, and scraps. The fish was a good size, incredibly fresh, and perfectly cooked to order. The light, crispy batter perfectly complemented the white, flaky fish. The chips were plentiful and delicious, with a hot, soft texture and excellent potato quality. The curry sauce was hot, traditional green/yellow, and thick, adding great flavor to the meal. The scraps were crunchy and surprisingly not greasy, despite their nature. The restaurant has recently received a 5-star hygiene award, a testament to the brilliant family team running the establishment. The service was as usual, with the cheerful and polite owner providing excellent service. Overall, this restaurant is a credit to New Waltham.

I ordered the fish and chips, and the portion size was very generous. I enjoyed the fact that they were served in a box, which kept the fish crispy. The batter was tasty and crispy, the fish was flaky, and the chips were great too. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant.

Went from Holton-le--Clay to this fish shop ,had to wait as they cook it as ordered . but well worth it lovely fish well cooked plenty of chips ,and enjoyed it.will be going back

Amazing as always got there in time very friendly and polite food very nice will call again even though it’s a fair bit away
