The Italian Bowl - Newtown

Just hits every single time!!! A whole in the wall but the quality of the food and the quickness of the service leaves you full but thinking about the next time you come back.

Not sure if this is a family run place. I didn't feel comfortable enough to engage in conversation (which I usually enjoy doing) with the lady at the cashier. This pasta place is like a McDonalds, but an Italian pasta restaurant version. The cashier is right at the front as you enter. If it wasn't for my friend having her pasta craving, I would have walked out. The energy of the cashier does not warrant for a nice dining experience. I love food and believe the whole experience from prepping, cooking to delivering should be done nicely for one to enjoy the food. No matter how bad it is, it won't taste bad. Must say thought, I did request a different staff member of they had water he was kind enough to get it for us as well as deliver it with a huge big genuine smile. Upon leaving, I left a shopping bag under the bench which they chased after me, so kudos to them for that. Yup. That woman at counter. Definitely killed he experience. I say this as I come from a family run business myself.

The restaurant is very noisy and crowded, so it may not be the best choice for a quiet, intimate meal. However, they do offer fast service and the line moves quickly. The portion sizes are generous for the price, and the pasta is well-prepared. My favorite dish was the meat tortellini, and the arrabbiata sauce had a nice spicy kick without being too overpowering. Be aware that cheese, red pepper, and chili oil are extras, and the service is mostly self-serve. Overall, it's a great casual spot for Italian food in Newtown that I would definitely return to.

Overall great experience. They were able to seat us right away. You can sit indoors or outdoors. The Italian food all seems authentic. It smells heavenly. The staff are quick and friendly and the food was delicious. Chill vibes and music playing. We got the mushroom and truffle arancini stuffed rice balls that are deep fried! Yum! Definitely a must try. We also ordered the spinach and cheese cannelloni. Creamy and such a comfort food. Would like to go back and try some of the other items. All of the pasta looked delicious.

I wanted to share my disappointment with you regarding the recent change in your hot chips. My husband and I have been loyal customers for years and have always loved your freshly cooked chips. However, it seems that you have now started using pre-made chips that are a strange yellow color, indicating they are not made from fresh potatoes. It feels like there may be preservatives added to keep them fresh, and they are not as delicious as they used to be. We will no longer be ordering chips from you, but we still enjoy the rest of your menu. We urge you to reconsider and go back to making freshly cut potatoes, as they were always the best. Thank you.
