Bidrage med feedbackGreat place, big owner. I ate at Chong in 1983. I asked how hot the spicy marinated chicken was. Chong, the founder and owner who has now retired, just told me you find out! What I found out was that Chong 's is a great place to eat, not only for me, but for almost all. Every day around the lunchtime I sat beside construction workers, lawyers, city workers, bankers, lawnmowers summer help, etc. It is a great place to appeal to every part of a community, and Chong has reached this in her over 30 years. I have moved away since, but every time I go through Newton, I make Chong 's a priority, and last summer of July 2012 I have the same great food from the new management I got from Chong for more than a decade. It is sad to think that Newton could eventually be overrun with franchises, and just another speed zone or gas stop enroute to a better place. As long as Chong's is in town, I'll have at least one reason to leave the highway.
Authentic food.. This is one of those places you will miss even if you are looking for, so pay attention. Small hole in the wall type resaurant. The decor and seating are cruel and the blooming lighting does not help. I wouldn't go if you want a romantic little outing, but the food is really good. If this is your main goal, the food will probably not disappoint here.
Good Asian, big burgers. I like Chong. The hotel is located in a funky old Hamburger church, the atmosphere is not for my pleasure. There are old stands and tables and no music. Very casual. You order at the switch and sit down. Prices are very reasonable! Sometimes we eat there, but I usually command taking. Chong is Korean and offers a variety of standard Chinese dishes, but I mainly order only 3 dishes I like. I especially like the Jop Chai sp. It consists of clear rice noodles with agitated vegetables and chicken. Nicely seasoned and not a thick sauce. I also like their potstickers, which are like a large square noodle cloud wrapped around some spiced meat with some vegetables, then panfried. Really good taste, texture, and I always get the rice ginegar and hot sauce with them. I also like their California Roll, which is handrolled when you order it, with all cooked ingredients, starting with rice, a few vegetables, egg and some beef. Really delicious with Wasabi! My true-sushi-eating daughter really likes it when she's home. I love Chong's hamburger too. I don't let myself eat often from cattleburgers, but if I don't like one, I'm here. And the fries are also really good. Last time my husband ordered the deluxe hamburger, who is a double-patty I get cheese, we ordered a plate of agitated vegetables instead of the french fries. Apparently no one had ever done this, but Chong accused us and then explained that, as they just threw them together, they would never be done twice if we ordered them again. Every combination of fresh, touchy fried suits fits us well! I really like restaurants where the owner of the cook is and is easy to recognize. Chong is almost always in the restaurant and pays attention to what you have ordered, how you like it, etc. She just celebrated her 25th anniversary and obviously Newton is happy about it!
