I visited the restaurant with a group of 12 for a stag do. We ordered starters and mains and some drinks. When the bill arrived, I was utterly shocked to see in the top right hand corner printed on the receipt the word 'slave '. I had to show it to a few others to make sure I was not reading it wrong. When the waitress eventually came to take our payments, I pointed out to her the word and asked her what it meant. She explained to me that they have two tills, one that is the main till (the master till) and another till which is called the slave till as it is the second one. Let me firstly say, in this day and age, how are you still calling your tills 'master ' and 'slave '. Surely till 1, till 2. Till A, till B. Main till, second till, could suffice. I was the only black male amongst the party. I felt complete anger, hurt and utter disbelief and what was printed on the receipt. News spread across the party of what had happened, and at that point I felt shame. Not at the fact I am black, but at the point I was being talked about. As to not offend the stag, I paid the bill and did not make a fuss. It has been 4 days now, and I still feel anger towards the restaurant.
We family Dinner with our 7 month baby, last minute decision, we were seated comfortably, such a warm atmosphere decorated beautifully for Xmas with the fire lit definelty gave us the Christmas feels We ended up getting 3 course meals as the dishes were all absolutely delicious full of flavour and a little extra oomph in the ingredients (shallots with butter squash puree with black pudding bits my absolute favourite , a real dining experience in every course, highly recommend, good parking nearby and shops all close by
We heard mixed reports on this restaurant, but decided to try it out. The starter of Prawn pil pil was disappointing. No vibrant chili sauce, instead an almost black colored sauce with slivers of burnt garlic with rubbery prawns. One main course fish and chips was just OK.. I would query if fish was fresh.. Chicken fillet burger was a thin piece of chicken flattened to look larger.. It arrived covered in batter and was tasteless poor quality. Waiters seemed preoccupied on their phones behind the bar .. We said goodbye to them without any response It was cash only which made me wonder what is going on
This lovely restaurant is located in Newry. The food was perfectly cooked, and I ordered the haddock as my main course. Cooking fish can be tricky, but The Oliver's Chef did an excellent job. The haddock had a light batter and was tender and delicious. The staff was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. They even accepted euros as we didn't have British currency on hand. The restaurant quickly filled up on a Sunday afternoon, showing its popularity among locals. We will definitely be returning on our next visit to Newry. The food was exceptional, the staff was fantastic, and the atmosphere was inviting. It's great value for money, and I highly recommend dining here. There is parking available right beside the restaurant with a nice view of the river. Shopping centers and the main street in Newry are also within walking distance.
