Ate here last week it had been a while since last being there nothing has changed food is ok and average nothing fancy and rice is a little stodgy unite a big area and with small crowds can be cold and a little in welcoming take away seemed busy
Had eaten here many years ago and had a good experience so was happy to return. We stayed in Newcastle West for 5 nights and ate here twice as I think it’s one of the best restaurants in the town. The décor is smart and the restaurant is very clean with friendly and efficient staff. We had a nice chicken and sweetcorn soup followed by a crispy duck and pancakes which was lovely. We had a range of main dishes over the two nights, all were good with the sweet and sour chicken probably worthy of a mention. One night (Saturday) was very busy but the service was still good and the food served fairly promptly and very hot. Reasonable prices as well. Worth a try.
We visited The River recently and had a really nice experience there. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere was friendly. We were offered a nice table at the window overlooking the town and it was festive as the Christmas lights were turned on in the town. The food was excellent we had scallops for starter and a ginger beef and chicken dish. The portions were large and very satisfying. Well worth trying out
I ate in this restaurant twice in the last four weeks having never been there before. I was absolutely amazed to see the negative reviews. My experience was entirely positive. the food was very good with the prawn toast starters particularly noteworthy as it was nice and chunky and contained actual prawn rather than the more common thin toast which has maybe a flavour of prawn. chicken satay skewers were a tiny bit over cooked but nothing significant and the satay sauce was beatiful. My wife had a chicken sweetcorm soup which was very tasty and hot and didnt have the slightly gluey texture some chinese soups can tend towards. the meats in the main course were very tender particularly the beef which can be hit and miss in chinese at times. we ordered from the sunday lunch menu which had starters at €4.00 each soups for €4.00 main courses at €9.00 desserts at €3.00 and tea and coffee i cant recall. if you went for a four course ie starter or soup followed by main corse dessert and tea or coffee the price was €15.00 per person we had starters and main courses with complimentary prawn crackers for three people which easily fed all four of us and the entire bill between one thing and another came to €43.00. If the four of us sat down for a carvery in a pub it would have cost more or less the same as that for two 13 euro main courses and two 7 euro kids meals which more often than not would have been chips and suasages or some other such stuff as i said i found the food to be of a good standard service was good and the place is very nice.
