Il Mattone - New York City

I’ve become a regular here and it’s one of the only places in I frequent for lunch. Great food, consistent, strong staff. What’s not to love.

Quick service. Neighborhood staple. Not a lot of seating space. Just a nice and quick neighborhood pizza place. Pasta dishes are good too. Their calzones are huge. There used to be much more variety of pasta dishes on the menu just a couple of years ago, but COVID and recession changed all that. Still a great pizza place.

Not sure about these reviews. But if this is the best pizza NYC has to offer....what a disappointment. And now, having tried pizza at various reputable establishments in several top cities, I would rank my experience as 1st Place: Boston. 2nd Place: Chicago. 3rd place: NYC. 4th Place: Los Angeles. 5th Place: Miami. Regarding Il Mattone...its a counter pizza place and not much more. The pizza looked like it had been sitting in the counter window for quite some time. They reheat it in their ovens, which is helpful, but I can't say this was the most flavorful, best pizza. It's good. Just nothing I'd brag about.

The chicken spinach lasagna is always very tasty. Great takeout dish for an easy dinner. Highly recommend it.
