Bidrage med feedbackTuna Lover was underwhelming at most. It wasn't worth the price and prep time kept increasing an hour which is ridiculous for one roll. Fish didn't taste fresh at all which is pretty bad considering spicy tuna is heavily seasoned (if you can taste how bad it is through the seasoning its bad bad). Portions were also small- this would be fine if the food was tasty. I've had a much better experience with several other sushi restaurants at different price points. Skip this place!
It took half an hour for the restaurant to only confirm my order, which totally messed up my schedule. Avoid this place if you have appointments scheduled around lunchtime
Fresh, delicious, and creative food. Reasonably priced Omakase. Chefs save money on decoration for food quality (a relaxed and self-restrained atmosphere, not pretentious like in Tokyo). This is my second visit (I went here last year). It would be greatif menu could offer a 20 sushi per course as an alternative option so we could enjoy a wider variety of fish; sushi dishes withKanji characters, culturally valued; as well as other soups and traditional cuisines usually available in a high-end omakasecourse. I’d say this is one of the best affordable omakase spots in the city. Almost want to gate keep it but I think it’s getting quite popular lately. It is super authentic sushi very fresh fish and the seasonings added to some of the nigiris are divine just complements the fish’s flavor and reminds me of home a lot. The itamae san is an old Japanese guy not very talkative but you can tell he is a shokunin san dedicated to his craft. Also its byob and theres a liquor store next door.
During a solo trip to NYC I decided to venture from the UWS to the UES for this small and unassuming sushi bar. The style is omakase and it was truly an experience. You are greeted at the door with your name on a list, then sat at the bar for one of only 3 seatings per night (make a reservation in advance). I met and mingled with such interesting and unique individuals it was an incredible experience. The staff were so friendly and kind. They got me to try things that were out of my comfort zone sushi wise and I was so glad they did. The perfect spot for solo travelers or a couple’s date night. If I could give this more than 5 stars I would.
