Bidrage med feedbackI was utterly disappointed with my experience here. If you're booking at the Ritz Carlton, it's typically because you're splurging. You want decadence. You're paying for luxury. Literally nothing about this hotel was luxurious in the slightest. The lobby was extremely plain and underwhelming, which was a good indicator of how our room would be as well completely lackluster, outdated and even dirty. The sheets were stained and the ancient foot stool at the end of the bed looked filthy. The outlets were too far from the bed and our minibar was locked the entire time. Whatever, guess I won't be buying any $10 water from you, it's cool. I worked in the hotel industry, so I know that when you book third party, you're always taking the risk of getting stuck with a shitty room. Some hotels play nice but some very much do not. This hotel fell into the latter category. Since we booked on Expedia, we ended up with a room on the third floor overlooking a patio of rocks and 2 3 other depressing neighboring buildings. No view of the Statue of Liberty for us, lol. Service was fine, bed was comfortable, bathroom was clean. Those are the only positives I can list. If you're looking for luxury in NYC, definitely invest a few extra hundred in Lotte NY Palace or The Plaza or something. This was a major disappointment and did not at all live up to Ritz Carlton brand standards.
Nice business hotel at the base of manhattan. Great access to Wall Street and WTC. This hotel isn't swanky or Uber plush but is a high end business conference or travel hotel. The rooms are much larger than older main line chain hotels in NYC. The other nice attribute is that this hotel faces the river and the statute of liberty. Many rooms have unobstructed views and some rooms come equipped with a telescope to look at lady liberty up close and watch the constant steam of ferries and other boat traffic between NYC, New Jersey and elsewhere. Nice rooms and baths. The baths were spacious and comfortable but I noted the fixtures(faucets etc) were fine but not really high end kolher or other. Conference food was good. And late one night the packed lobby bar served a super delicious burger and fries. That hit the spot after a work function that was off site and had more blah food. I wish I had time to try more culinary items to determine how good the kitchen is. My only minor complaint is the breakfast set up for my meeting had bagels and a toaster. They forgot cream cheese. When I asked for cream cheese they brought a tray of fat free. Was it a hint???? When I asked for regular it was like they had to run to a bodega and score a slab! Come on. Manhattan has so many options. This location means most guests were Wall Street bound or conferences. I will stay again if I have an option. My HQ is based in mid town so I most likely will end up around Rock Ctr but I will keep my eyes open.
The location of this hotel is pretty sweet. It has perfect access to the Statute of Liberty photo ops. In fact I had a gorgeous view from my hotel window. There are a lot of tourist in this area due to the proximity of the landmark, but during the fall season, it is quite bearable. Early fall is one of the most beautiful times to visit New York City. You 'll need a coat, but nothing close to full winter gear. The reason that I rated this hotel a 3, is because compared to my other experiences at the Ritz Carlton, it does not compare. The Cancun and Dana Point locations are sublime. I was expecting luxury and decadence, but instead my experience was simply upscale . I don 't mean to sound snobby, but for $500+ per night, I expected more. This is a more business- oriented hotel than vacation luxury. What I liked most about this spot was the room service and location. Stay here if these things are important to you, but understand that there are more interesting places to stay in NYC.
Great location plus wonderful hotel with outstanding service adds up to a great long weekend. Here from LA for a wedding in New Jersey and picked this Ritz because of its quiet location yet close to many things . Be sure to take in the 911 museum and the observation tower ...a short walk away . Just had a relaxing 90 min massage ...the therapist was very experienced and in-tuned to what my body needed . Ask for room 910 with view of the Statue of Liberty...room has an amazing telescope, too ...a very nice added feature .
A lovely looking hotel with some important problems unbecoming a Ritz Carlton property. I helped a friend from China and her young son check-in because of language issues. The man at the front desk was very nice, as was Aktbar who accompanied us to my friend's room. He was especially helpful. But later the problems began. The room was spacious with large windows- but they were really filthy, impeding the view. My friend reported to me that they had called to get water bottles delivered to the room but it took forever and a few more calls. Worst, however, was the disastrous customer service I struggled with on behalf of my friend: At check-in we were told clearly that a daily full American breakfast was included in the 5 night stay. The first morning, my friends had breakfast. Then, the second morning they were told that their room did not include breakfast. They asked for my help. Then began my saga of trying to get assistance. I called the front desk that second morning around 8:30 and got a very brusque woman with a first name sounding like Yi Long. She was so dismissive and unhelpful that I asked to speak to a manager. After waiting on hold for a long time, she came back to say that there was no manager on duty but that one would call me later. That didn't happen so I called back 3 hours later and asked to speak to a manager. After a long wait, a male manager came on the phone. I described the entire breakfast situation and that the first morning $90 charge needed to be reversed. He said he would look into the situation and put me on hold. After 15 more minutes a woman came on to say that no one would be helping me and that that man was only an agent, not a manager. I expressed disgust about how this could be considered acceptable customer service at a Ritz and hung up. Later, I received a message from the hotel. I called back and spoke with a real manager to explain the situation for the third time. She finally agreed to reverse the breakfasts charged that were really the fault of the hotel telling us that breakfast was included in my friend's stay. Why did it take me the entire day to get this accomplished?? Seems that this kind of customer service is much more in keeping with a roadside Motel 6 than a very expensive world-renowned hotel chain! Be forewarned!
