Karma - New Farm

Absolutely loved going to Karma! The food was to die for they had a range of traditional Indian and Nepalese dishes as well as some new fusion dishes! Also had a mango lassi which was so refreshing. Service was great and loved the low traditional Indian seating. Can't wait to go back!

We tried this place for the first time given it had very good previous reviews. It should be said that we are probably harsh critics when it comes to curry as we come from a family of very good Indian food cooks as our father is Mauritian and an excellent cook. We ordered: Rogan Josh, Palak Paneer, steamed rice, Raita and Pappadums. Firstly the Pappadums were delightful. The were laced with cumin seeds which made for a nice variation on the plain version. The rice was generously served and was fluffy and hot. The Palak Paneer, however, was was lacking in real punchy or original flavours. The Rogan Josh was okay. But it was nothing to write home about. Waited 40 minutes for take away when we were quoted 10. This was pretty inexplicable as the restaurant had zero patrons. They forgot our pappadums, so they were off to a pretty poor start The curry used really cheap sinewy meat and was lacking a depth of flavour. The rice was previously frozen and grainy which is understandable as they clearly have no customers I give this place 2 months until it closes down.

HORRIBLE. Just ate at this restaurant. The food was good as always but the staff... eeks! The lady at the bar counter perpetually had her hand in her head and was scratching away. Yuck! She also decided to turn off the lights above our seats for reasons best known to her. When we requested the lights be turned back on as I had an infant who I was trying to feed, we were told something was wrong with their lights. SHAME ON YOU The two male staff members and a younger girl were munching away throughout the time we were there. We were charged a grotesque 90c for takeaway containers... seriously??????? Won't be going back for sure.

90c for each plastic take away container??. The food is inconsistent can be great; can be a bit stale (sitting for too long). However, I was annoyed when charged 90c per plastic container to put the food we couldn't finish in and take home. The owner/manager said he could prove they pay 90c per plastic container. When I asked him to do so, he went to the kitchen and after a moment returned and said they couldn't find a bill. Funny that. I told him I could buy these at Coles down the road for much, much less. He took the we have costs' line but I don't think it will help their cause if they penny pinch and charge that much (or at all) for food the customer has already paid for. I will...read more
