I recently visited The Falls in the Savoy in Nelson, BC for happy hour and had a great experience. Our server, Alicia, provided excellent service.
The service was excellent. We visited for lunch and it was very peaceful.
Had a nice table on the terrace for our group of 6. The restaurant was busy but it seemed there were only 2 servers and 2 cooks. This lead to lengthy delays for drinks, food and service. We had to chase down someone to get our bill. The 6 orders of food were not served at the same time -- it came in 3 separate servings. We were there for over 2 1/4 hours. The wine list is very pricey. There were several other tables complaining about the service. Also, there were some kids running wild in the restaurant banging on washroom doors and being a nuisance with no one controlling them. All in all a very disappointing experience.
Lovely table on outdoor patio. Quite busy, but not packed. Ordered drinks (beer & cider) we ordered food at same time. We were there a full half hour before drinks came. It took an hour and a half before our shared appetizer arrived. Server informed us mains would be right up too. Well, it was over 30 more minutes to get those, and one was missing a key ingredient - the chicken! Food was good and portions were large (except for missing chicken). We were very hungry by time it arrived. Service was very slow.. Staff were stressed. From what we were told and overheard, owner and some key staff were preparing food at a music festival, leaving restaurant very understaffed. Especially kitchen. Heard they ran out of food items and dealing with frozen food (I didn't want to hear not all was fresh!). Unfortunately we were never asked if we wanted more drinks and water was never refilled. Staff not often by and had hands full when they were so we couldn't really flag someone down to ask, plus we hesitated ordering more drinks because we didn't want to prolong stay. As the music festival is a major annual event, i understand the importance of food prep there. But it shouldn't be at expense of restaurant. If both can't be adequately managed, perhaps the restaurant could be closed for the event duration, rather than be inadequately run. It was very unfair to both the customers and staff that were there. Our server, despite having little contact with us, understood our frustration. She comped our mains (considering the missing chicken this was appreciated). It seemed from what we overheard food service was stopped before 8 pm as they couldn't manage. Quite a few customers left after being seating, presumable because food not available. It was a warm night of a long weekend in summer, Nelson was very busy, I would think restaurant would expect business and should be prepared. Sadly they failed at this.
