Bidrage med feedbackGreat food and service as always on our jagd trips there.
The food was mediocre or worse but I know they do better based on friend's comments. Twice they did not have the knoefla soup they are known for and we had other items. We had burnt food items, no one around to share our thoughts with for staff, had to get some of our own silverware and condiments from other tables, got the wrong check, list just goes on I'll stop there. They had young kids working who probably just were busy in back and weak on understanding how to be servers in a restaurant? Seemed like very nice, friendly and personable people, we had no issues there, it was the food and service that didn't work. Overcooked beef patties till dark gray and dry, cole slaw texture almost a bit slimy, onion rings so dark brown they were way overcooked, just not what we've heard from friends there other times. I think the young kids just had way more than they could handle and needed an adult with experience to help guide them. They were not able to pull it off alone.
My wife’s fried chicken wasn’t cooked all the way through, but our server was nice enough to have them remake it properly and have it taken off of our bill.
I absolutely adored the restaurant located next to the grain silos near the train tracks, which are a significant landmark in the town. While biking across the country, unexpected challenges can arise, especially on the Northern Plains where the wind can be a major obstacle. Arriving after breakfast hours had ended at 10 AM was disappointing after battling the wind for four hours, but I decided to try the special cheese bread concoction that caught my eye. Unfortunately, it turned out to be yesterday's special, so I opted for the 3 piece cod basket instead, which was delicious. The wait staff seemed to be high school students, and it was entertaining to watch them work together to solve a problem when the register ran out of receipt paper. The building appeared to be newly renovated, but old photos on the walls added a sense of history, including a photo signed by the cast of Bonanza.
I went to lunch at 11 am with a group of five people and we all really enjoyed the food and service. I ordered the cod basket, while the others had the salad bar, cheeseburger, and other sandwiches. We all left happy and satisfied. Definitely planning to go back again.
