Ricky's All Day Grill - Nanaimo

I'm going a lot to Ricky's family and we know what we expect. We know the menus and know we can trust the food to be good. The staff is friendly (last time we were there they were short employees, but... the staff were still very nice, although they seem to run away from their feet), and it's just a comfortable, familiar place to eat. It is not unusual, but not everything must be imagination (often things are ruined by trying to be imagination, to stay on easier is not a bad thing). I feel like eating there every time.

We recently dined at this restaurant while staying at the hotel and found it to be quite pleasant. The hostess and servers were welcoming and attentive. The food was decent, although nothing exceptional. The portion sizes were large. It would be nice to see a more extensive wine selection beyond just 'House red' or 'House white'.

The service was excellent and the prices were reasonable at this restaurant. However, the menu was limited and the lasagna was overcooked. Despite this, the portion was large enough to share between two people.

The food was terrible, the staff were rude, the trash bins were overflowing, the woman serving us was unpleasant, and the bathroom had a bad odor. It was a disaster.

Went with a large group for dinner this afternoon, Think the organizer must have checked they could handle a group because the table was all set and ready for us. That's where preparation ended. Orders were taken for drinks. Some got their wine reasonably promptly,...by I waited for what turned out to be a dreadful dry martini, over half an hour, another person waited about the same time for a scotch on the rocks. Dinners took an hour or longer, and only some people got served, others, much later, one lady was totally forgotten until one of the group went up to the counter and asked where her meal was! Some of the meals were O.K. (when they finally arrived) the chef had to come and serve some of the meals (there were not sufficient wait staff working, or the ones who were, obviously didn't not have sufficient experience to deal with the shortage of staff! What a disaster I would never recommend anyone who wants to enjoy a pleasant relaxing meal, to ever go to this restaurant. A couple who were in our party, had eaten at the Rickys in the North End of Nanaimo the previous night, said the service and food they experienced there was wonderful. Now I know, eat at the North End Rickys if you want decent service and food!
