Bidrage med feedbackSix friends and I spent a great evening at la Taberna de Toni and as usual it was a great experience. The food is still as good as it has been over the years. Toni and his wonderful staff extend a warm and great atmosphere and a relaxed space for their customers and friends as we are now. I look forward to my next visit in early February and meet my amigos again. TomC.
I'm a regular visitor to Toni's and I always get a great welcome from him and his staff. The tapas are so tasty and get you in the spirit of what is about to come. I more or less leave it up to Toni to choose for me and I'm never let down. This is informal dining at its best and is most adorable. Long may this place prosper and I will see you soon. TomC
I stumbled across the place while walking around the university district. When later I checked on TripAdvisor I found the reviews a little unforgiving and was surprised to see only three. There are most definitely pros and cons to this place but overall I believe it 's a deviation from the basic and offers some great food. The main bar is a poky atmospheric room with a few small round tables facing the short busy bar counter. The second room, opened on the night I visited due to demand, is less appealing and feels a bit like an extended living room. The menu comes without prices; I looked around and anticipated that I wasn’t going to be fleeced and proceeded to order. I had one of the house salads, appealing presented and comprised of fresh ingredients that included endive, white asparagus, anchovy, local cheese, caper berries and more. This I accompanied with a stunning designer mini-hamburger coated in emmental or similar cheese, absolutely delicious and succulent and daring close to red. I had a glass of locally sourced red from Jumillia and spent a leisurely hour or so watching the tempting dishes make their way to the enthusiastic tables nearby. Mostly locals or at least Spanish speakers. Very appealing plates of meats, chesses and a range of enticing looking tapas dishes passed by. There 's a seating area outside with stools that works well as chatty gathering point. More than one of the Spanish reviewers commented on the poor service and I too experienced frustrating moments while the lone waitress dealt as best she could, but alas without smiles, with overwhelming numbers. Not great but I wasn 't in a hurry, it was a pleasant evening and when I went to pay the bill at the end of the night she presented me with a complimentary exquisite tart dusted with cinnamon and sugar called Mata Suegra (Kill the mother-in-law). It was excellent and the bill was fair. I left very happy indeed.
