Not the “authentic, fresh Sashimi/nigiri” restaurants, where you know that the cook is formally trained in traditional sushi methods, etc., etc., and the only creative roles they have are the Spider Rolls and for them they have a single artistic sprig of Wasabi sprout to rice, seaweed and - it is name cake - the Spiders. What I was looking for is a place with fun, gauche, American-tasting maki. ARIKATO is the place! Their roles are wonderful, and portion sizes are very generous. Admittedly, they are not a raised, polished place where you wear your Manolo Blahniks, but sometimes if you are hungry for some hearty, creative roles, this is the place to be. (BTW, the Bess Rolls are great.
I like this place – really! Their roles are great and the fish is fresh. It is not cheap, but reasonable for sushi – I think. And I want to give him 4 stars, but... I think their food and portion sizes were uneven. And I ESPECIALLY have a problem with Google Roll (spicy tuna, tempura shrimp, unagi, crab, tombiko, and AVOCADO as soon as my favorites, now it is just frustration rolled into rice. If you go, try it. Is that what you get to the picture? Previous – but not anymore. And I went more than once when the avocado was left and someone insisted that it didn't even come with him. (It is listed oin the description, seen on the photo. Or worse than tonight. They gave me an eight-inch disc, which was only about 1.5 inches long – for the WHOLE 6-piece role! C’MON! C’mon. I really want to love you again – or at least be able to get the Google role in the picture. You're better than that Arikato. I know it's you.
