Overlander Hotel - Mount Isa

The restaurant is pleasant enough but unfortunately, it is quite dirty. The towels are torn, there is mold in the shower, and there are stains on the blankets. The room is a typical, old-style motel room located near the hotel and is easy to locate. It can be a bit noisy at night due to the nearby pub, so it is advisable to choose a room away from the pub. If the cleanliness was improved, it would be an acceptable place to stay.

My experience at this restaurant was truly terrible. I was lured in by the promise of a courtesy bus to and from the venue, only to be disappointed after spending a lot of money on my trip so far. I regret not just ordering pizza and staying in my camper van. The pork chop I ordered was dry and tasteless, while my dad's salad Nicoise left a unpleasant pool of tuna water at the bottom of the bowl. I will not be returning to this restaurant.

We should have been forewarned by the unkempt front lawn with a large streak of dog feces that seemed to be part of the decor. We ordered a mixed grill from a server who struggled with English. When the food arrived, it looked like it was taken from a Chinese restaurant's scraps bucket, along with two very thin chops. The dish was covered in so much oil that it could have been used for an oil change on a Landcruiser. After a taste test, we felt the need to cleanse our mouths with turnips and drain cleaner, followed by a bottle of wine to calm our nerves. We recommend passing on this restaurant and instead visiting the Irish club.

It appears that the Ovi is in the grip of cost cutting and poor staff relations a result of a period of poor service and meals. Ordered a Rib Fillet...$33 It had been flattened before cooking, looked like a thin rump. Chips were luke warm and I counted 13 on the plate inc scraps Salad was in a bowl the size of a coffee cup.2 small pieces of tomato and some lettuce Staff were mostly pleasant except for Harmony (misnomer) who was in a foul mood. Asked for a glass with my stubby and they put ice in it....this happened to another customer shortly after... This is part of the downward spiral when you have failed to attract customers over a period of time and they stop coming back.

Aboriginal woman (me) non-drinker was told by non-indigenous ovy staff member taking meal orders to eat my meal (dinner) in the public bar as they had no room for me in the restaurant eating area. There were vacant tables in the restaurant area which were not reserved. Apart from the 1 aboriginal staff member, I was the only aboriginal person in the restaurant area. Took my meal home in a take away container to eat it. I will never go back there again. Am now lodging a complaint with ADCQ.
