Helena - Montréal

A friendly greeting from the hostess and she lets us choose our seats. the ambiente was beautiful and the lighting was perfect. our server was just great and chatting. meal delicious many thanks.

First time for some of us. Enjoyed it all. Loved the explanation of each dish.

It was our first time at Helena, and we had some expectations set based on reviews we read. On top of that it was a New Year 's dinner and we were really expecting to have an exceptional dinner with amazing service and the very good food (st least according to the regular menu. The disappointment came right after we were sited, first of all the restaurant was not crowded, but it took a good 20 minutes for servant to come to our table. The expected regular dinner menu was not available, and we had to agree to pre-set option for the night with a fixed price of $175 per person, which was annoying, since did not have much choices according to our dietary preferences. It occurred that it doesn 't have any option for people who do not eat meat, forget about the vegans.. The portions was pity fully small like in the worst case of fine french cuisine Europea style, just a joke, plus the stuff was definitely missing on the training, pouring the wine with the elbow pointed into my face, multiple times, definitely not accidentally. The food was random and overall nothing to do with the Portuguese cuisine. Most of all it reminded of a low end catering at the low end cocktail party. Music was too loud and it did not go with the place ambiance. There was a ceiling lamp in the middle of the room decorated with some kind of green tree branches, that had perished and had to be replaced over a week ago, nobody bothered. Overall, I think the owners of this place completely dropped the ball, and do not care of how it is doing. I prefer to stay silent about the main dish they served to me instead of the meat one I do not eat. LOL never again! Good luck dear Helena ;

Decided to do New Year’s Eve at Helena. Had no choice but to have a set menu, which I thought there was a $125 option and a $175 option. Surprised at invoice time that we were charged the $175. Wine was $80 for a very average bottle of white. One of our dishes arrived late because it was given to the couple next to us, mistakenly, then removed and taken to somewhere, don’t know where, and then I think it was the same dish returned to us and was now lukewarm at best when it should have been hot. Quite disappointing. Service staff were good, and friendly. Overall with taxes and tip, the bill was almost $580+. Summary: good food but way overpriced for our taste.

Always great service and tasty eating in helena. one of my favorite restaurants in montreal.
