Grenade - Montréal

Went with some co-workers on a Thursday after work for drinks and a bite to eat. Nice atmosphere, great drinks, great food.

I was visiting Montreal from British Columbia and I was pleased that even though I could only speak English every restaurant I have been to had an English menu to offer until we went to this restaurant. So strike one no English menu. There was five of us and we had phoned ahead and made a reservation and in that reservation we had asked sit outside we were told no problem. When we got there there was no table reserved for us. We had to squish into a four person booth and were told to order drinks and wait until a table became available outside. We sat there for about 25 minutes and then we noticed that people were leaving from outside so we went and had a look and sure enough there was two empty tables so we asked if we could sit outside basically looking after ourselves. Strike two. Then while we were outside it was quite chilly and there was a heater right beside us, there was second heater that was working but ours was not we asked multiple times if they could turn it on after about a half an hour they finally did so I’ll give them half a strike for that one. When we finally did get to order food it came and we had no utensils and no water. Strike three. The food was OK and that’s the only reason I’m giving it two stars.

The bartenders are awesome. Having only speaking English, they really helped me figure out what kind of items they have and awesome recommendations. The steamed duck is one of the best sandwiches I have had in Montreal. I definitely recommend grabbing a beer and something to eat here.

Came here for dinner. The outside of the restaurant is almost scarily unappealing. I am so happy we went in though. Inside is very cute with both indoor and outdoor seating. Service was very prompt. Menu cocktails were cute in presentation but a little weak and flat in the taste department. Food however was quite good. Very well flavored and the menu had a number of Asian-fusion dishes that belied the restaurant’s stoutly francophone name. Noticeably and comfortingly diverse.

I made a reservation for 25 people to celebrate my wife's birthday and the service was fantastic. The staff was friendly, the outdoor terrace (small garden) was nice, and the food was excellent. I highly recommend this place and think you should definitely give it a try. Well done to the La Grenade team!
