Bidrage med feedbackWe are in this restaurant every time you visit Monschau. The outdoor area is just fantastic on the market
Only had a drink here, but the wine we got was very bad, overpriced and the glasses were dirty. We asked for some sort of cheese as a snack but apparently they are the only pub in the world without cheese
Read the reviews after ordering! Our service was fine, drink and food arrived timeously. Staff were courteous. Eisbein (ham shank) was huge, sauerkraut a small portion, and the potatoes instant. Schnitzel was very tasty, and succulent. Deer stew and purple cabbage passable. View and ambiance sublime.
We arrived around 18.30 after not being able to get a table anywhere else. We ordered two beers and said we did not (yet want to eat which was met with a no no no and a tap on their wrist as to indicate that this was only an available time if we were having dinner. Funny, because of the (give or take 15 tables, only three were being used. Didn 't really seem like he needed our table to serve anyone else. As we could not get a beer without ordering a meal, we left. This place was our very bottom choice for the night, as it was nicely decorated but super poorly lit and music playing over a radio (no decent quality of background music which made it impossible to have a private dinner convo as everyone (those other 2 tables.. could hear everything you 'd say. Glad we left!!!!
Being well located, the restaurant became really crowd right after our arrival. However, restaurant staffs in Monschau do not strongly recommend to make a reservation, and it is true that with some luck you can find easily places available. We ordered the traditional schnitzel and Goulash. I must confess that the Goulash did not impress me (far from the flavour and taste in the countries of ex Austrian Hungarian Empire). I noticed that at least in restaurants I was in Monschau, Goulash comes in small pots and with similar recipe, so I wonder if all restaurants are taking the Goulash from same huge pot somewhere in the town...(Joking, of course). Neither the schnitzel was not very special , rather oily. Luckily, it came with a lemon piece. We ordered coca cola, and they brought pepsi cola (we noticed when one of the personnel drank himself from a bottle of pepsi) OK, no tragedy, but they could warn us...Otherwise, friendly staff. As usual, my rating goes down for payment method: cash only.
