Bidrage med feedbackI used to loudly proclaim that Mario's were the best donuts in the St. Louis area. But, sometime over the last year Mario's changed its donut recipes. The dough used to be light and tender, but now is dense and always over-proofed. The vanilla glaze used to be light and would cling to the donuts, but now is thick and flakes off. The chocolate icing was once a smooth ganache, but is now gritty. I have to wonder if they changed ownership and took the recipes with them.
They have expanded their menu and hours. This is a fabulous place to eat and meet. Also are very pro first responder military and veteran.
I have been going to Mario’s for donuts for over 10 years. Their Chocolate Long John’s were so light and fluffy. The best I’ve ever had. I even told others how good they were. Today I found out they have a new baker and the donuts are horrible! Heavy and old tasting. I am so sad that my favorite donut is gone. Will not be going back.
Moved here a year ago and got a donut and coffee 2—3 times a week. A couple of months ago they lost their donut maker, several weeks with no donuts. Eventually they started having donuts again, but they were terrible. Not sure if there’s a new cook or if they are buying someone else’s products.
This used to be my favorite donut place. I took my niece there this morning and they have totally changed their donuts. They were bland and dry. The chocolate long John’s are a totally different recipe, as is the cake donut I had. Please go back to the original donut recipes. Very disappointing.
