The place is located 25 km from merida on the way to motul in a small town called baca. this place is used for meditation groups because of the rest and the beautiful gardens. eating was not excellent, but it is... worthy to know the trip.
The food is delicious, but that isn't the best part. After eating, take a stroll through the garden and marvel at the beauty that is there.
We traveled to Baca along the road from Merida to Motul and found Hacienda San Jose on the outskirts of town. Fatima was our hostess and served us a delightful Thai luncheon in the dining room. It was our second visit in as many years....We met the owner, a frenchman whose family owned the hacienda and who had made it his purpose in live to provide healing opportunities for cancer survivors as a free day clinic and holistic healing center.A wonderful man with several delightful little dogs. The restaurant serves to help fund the healing center.
We have been to this lovely place 4 or 5 times and always have a great meal. There were 6 of us today and everyone enjoyed their meals. We had pad Thai with chicken, a green curry, which is pretty spicey, a red curry, not...quite as spicy but still got some heat to it and pineapple chicken. Everything was really good, we were all tasting each other's meals. The pineapple chicken was great, it has a fair bit of heat to it but the pineapple helped cool off the spicy bite. It is served in the halfway pineapple, which is a really pretty presentation but even the curries and pad Thai were served with flair. We shared some pitchers of the house iced tea which is gently spiced and very refreshing. The restaurant is a lovely place with a large fish pond and huge multi coloured koi fish you can feed. We arrived with a dog and they allowed us to bring her in with us, despite the resident little dogs protesting. The resident pouches soon settled down and accepted our large border collie sharing their space. It was a lovely lunch in a really nice setting, well worth the drive. You need to know where this little gem is or you will have trouble finding it. Located on the south east corner of Baca, coming from Conkal it is the first left at the shrine, then just past the local school, don't make the sharp right corner go straight ahead through the gates. There is a white vinyl sign for a foundation on the gate post.
