Bidrage med feedbackWe had high expectations after seeing the rave reviews, but were underwhelmed. The best part of our experience was the garden venue, but even that had a drawback of loud disco type music blaring from the wall-mounted speakers. We asked to be seated at a table not directly under the speakers. I would describe the menu as being Vietnamese inspired, in that the menu items we ate were not authentic. The cucumber side was more of a Japanese sunomono, and the grilled beef had a distinctive Chinese five spice flavor. The tempura squid was just that, tempura. The veal based ramen had potential, but was brought to the table luke warm. If you are allergic to soy, as is one of my peers, Hon is not a restaurant for you. Everything, except the grilled tuna, has soy. The waiter was friendly and helpful, yet service was lacking. All the hot dishes all came out warm, which I assume means they sat someplace in the kitchen cooling off while the chef prepared the only cold dish (a salad) that was ordered. That salad, served as a main dish, was brought out about five minutes after the warm dishes. The kitchen needs to get organized. Given that we were the only diners the chef could not have been overwhelmed by demand. Eating here once was unfortunately more than enough. If you have a craving for Asian food, I would highly recommend Miyabi.
Myself and my partner have ordered from Hon several times during our stay in Merida. The first time we were pleasantly surprised with just how good the food was. It is hard to find good, clean and fresh asian food but Hon have nailed it. Great value for money and we enjoyed it every time. Not your usual salty, sloppy and oily asian cuisine.
The chef at Hon really know what he is doing with Asian food. The flavors are spot on, the proteins are excellent, the vegetables are fresh, crispy and full of flavor. The surroundings are lovely— this might be the nicest garden seating in this city. And the service could not be more friendly. We started with the pork belly bao and the spring rolls. Both authentic and excellent. For the main course I had the banh mi shrimp. The flavors are all amazing. But banh mi needs the right bread and the roll was too large and too soft — something to improve in the future. My husband had the shrimp crepes — amazing. Prices are reasonable. We are about to become regulars in this new Mérida offering.
