Bidrage med feedbackThe meat at this restaurant is amazing - it's smoky, tender, and juicy. However, the menu could be improved with a wider selection of salads that provide some crunch and acidity to balance out the richness of the meat.
In terms of barbecue restaurants in Melbourne, this was definitely one of the worst we have tried. The brisket, which they claimed was double smoked, lacked any smoke ring or bark and came already covered in sauce, which is never a good sign. The meat was fatty and chewy, lacking flavor. The chicken looked crispy but had no taste, and the mac and cheese, which was actually croquettes, were dry and lacked cheese sauce. The cornbread was the only decent item as the butter had soaked in, but the rest was dense and flavorless. Desserts were mediocre, with standard pre-made cake slices that one might expect at a cheap Italian restaurant chain. The only positives were the incredibly fast service (our food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering) and the friendly, efficient servers. The chili cheese fries were also a standout. We had high hopes after the appetizers, but unfortunately, the quality of the meal went downhill from there. For a bill of $165 for a deer dish, 2 sides, 3 meats, and dessert, we did not feel the value was there. With so many other barbecue options in Melbourne, we were surprised that this place is still in operation and now question the validity of their 5-star reviews.
Upon entering, one is immediately greeted warmly. There is no rush to place an order, allowing time to peruse the menu. The American BBQ cuisine is top-notch, with perfectly cooked and juicy meat. The sides, particularly the cornbread, are also outstanding. The restaurant offers a good selection of beer and American whiskey. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience and I am excited for my next visit.
