Baer - Meiringen

We stayed in Meiringen for 2 weeks as our home base, and visited Restaurant Baer on several occasions. They had a nice covered patio for drinks, where the service was quick and the servers generally available as needed. On 2 occasions, we then closed out the tab outside and moved to the restaurant inside. On the whole, our orders were taken quickly and the food was very good. They catered well to English-speakers and everything we ordered was accurate. The only drawback was trying to close out the bill and leave. Granted, it is often an adjustment for Americans to experience lengthy meals (something we know, accept and celebrate while in Europe), but even beyond that our party had to stay almost 30 minutes beyond when we were ready to depart because we simply couldn't get the bill. That was the only negative aspect. We found this a great alternative to the hotel restaurants and one where (at least on the patio outside) was full of locals enjoying a beer in the afternoon.

We stayed in Meiringen one night, a Sunday. Most businesses were closed and we ended up at Restuarant Baer. It was excellent! We had very fresh salads, a chicken dish, a pasta dish and an excellent vegetable plate. We had just come from Montreux, Bern and Zurich. The prices and value at Resturant Baer were much better than we experienced in the other cities. We wait staff was very friendly and efficient. We were sorry we were only staying one night or we would have gone back.

Restaurant im Durchschnitt, das Essen ist gut und Preisgünstig. Parkplätze sind direkt neben dem Restaurant.

Freundlicher Empfang, danach lange Wartezeit für Bestellung; fürchterliches Ambiente; Essen i.O.; ausgegangene Suppe war für später kommende Gäste plötzlich wieder verfügbar
