La Tomate - Marseille

We were invited to this small restaurant by friends from Marseille, and luckily because it sits discreetly on a quiet side street which you’d easily think you took a few wrong turns. We sat on the shady terrace and refreshed ourselves with a pastis before ordering from the day’s short but varied selection of typical French dishes. The friendly host and hostess, Kathy and Tony, aimed to please and we were treated to an afternoon of good food and wine with peach Melba for dessert. They’re only open for lunch and have a live music cabaret on first Sunday of each month that’s reputed to be worth a fine Sunday afternoon. For authentic traditional French repas, this is the place.
