It was the birthplace of John Byron, one of the revolutionaries of the British phonetic system and miraculously it was one of the few historic buildings that did not suffer damage by the bombings during the Second World War, which triggered the entire centre of Manchester. This makes the visual features of this place contrast to the modern city center. In 1948 the building was declared a Monument of the city of Manchester. Apart from an excellent selection of beers from the area, the place is tastefully decorated, and we were surprised by the quality of the food and the price, for nothing nonsense considering that it is in the center of the city (at the back of the cathedral) and its architectural and renowned characteristics. Its culinary specialties include cakes or foot, so they are very famous, highlighting chicken cake, veal meat and beer, and vegetable cake. Likewise the lamb and the typical sausages of the area are other dishes to take into account. If we want to eat in the center traditional British food of the central area, in a typical building, this is definitely the most recommended place in the city of Manchester.
Had a brilliant beef pie. The old pub has great history and atmosphere.
We were lucky to find a table upstairs, next to a window. The place was atmospheric and welcoming. The service is very kind, smiling and fast. Both dishes we tried were very tasty, carefully prepared and attractively presented. Loved the lamb pie! Everything went perfectly until we left completely satisfied and we thank them very much for the beautiful evening! We hope to have a chance to visit it one more time before we leave Manchester!
A very traditional styled old pub with lots of good beers and a good menu of food. All staff are really helpful, friendly and attentive and service is good. Our food was spot on and portion sizes are great, so you'll be nice and full. The only negative was the men's toilets which were flooded when we visited, but it was horrendously busy in the area/beer garden due to the CL final.
Interesting atmosphere and very good offer of beers. Happy personal, Nice place. You can visit this place.
