The Chequers Inn - Maldon

We always feel warmly welcomed at The Chequers. The menu offers a wide selection of dishes, all of which are consistently excellent quality and served with a friendly smile. The chips are the best we've ever had!

When we arrived for our pre-booked table on Sunday, I was initially concerned due to the chaotic scene at the restaurant. There were two long queues at the bar, flustered staff, and even though we had a reservation, we still had to wait to be served. However, things quickly improved and we received excellent service and delicious food, with a great selection of drinks, all in a charming setting. It seems that because the restaurant is so good, it gets very busy, so we may consider visiting during a less popular time in the future.

I recently had two fantastic meals at this restaurant. We enjoyed a delicious evening meal with 6 people, all of whom had several different options to choose from and thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Yesterday, I had lunch for two outside in the lovely shaded patio courtyard. Both times, there were Gluten Free options available, and the staff ensured that our dietary requirements were met. Overall, this country inn is a very pleasant place to dine, with enjoyable walks down to the River Blackwater. I recommend taking a stroll through the Churchyard and returning via Fish Street.

Myself and my partner went for lunch here on a Sunday, no booking needed. We had the most amazing meal of lemon and herb chicken, chips (hand made) and home made coleslaw. I must say, as a chef myself, the food was outstanding. Well done BOH team. The FOH team were so friendly, chatty and very helpful. We really enjoyed the atmosphere here and the quiet village of Goldhanger. Plently of parking available also. We finished the day off with a lovely walk along the sea wall, which was most welcome after such a filling lunch!! This will now be our go to pub to escape our busy life of being in the trade!!! Drove out on a rainy day, spent a good couple of hours chatting with locals. Friendly welcoming pub with a good selection of ales and other drinks, friendly staff, good service. The food looked great too (will visit again to eat).
