Bidrage med feedbackIf you are not from Hawaii or the west coast of the USA, this peasant market is guaranteed to surprise you. In addition to the locally grown tropical fruits, many providers have plant-based options, and some suppliers are totally vegan. I have a DELICIOUS sweet potato and white cheesecake and it was one of the culinary highlights of my visit to Hawaii. My partner got a vegan breakfast hash from an adjacent (non-vegan) stand, and it was also bombing. This is a must for vegans on Maui.
We came here after we accidentally found the peasant market on Apple Maps. We're here at 9 or 10 and it was PACKED. It was super hard to find a parking lot. Hardly anyone wore masks and it was extremely crowded. We bought Mango, Sapote, Avocado and Lychee.
This market is a true dream to come true! The idea of being in Hawaii and eating out of this country is what hundreds of thousands calls here every year. The market is filled with all local suppliers who grow most in their own countries. It should be noted that there are a few vendors who do not use organic ingredients or sell what I call sketchy foods to be so sure to ask many qualifying questions to meet your standards and check for the signs they are required to place this state weather they organic methods or not. Seriously, here you can taste the aromas of the rainbow.
Maui's hasn't always been able to sustain vegan cafes, which is crazy because so many people living in Maui LOVE raw/vegan/healthy food! The best place right now to meet great vendors is at the Upcountry Farmer's Market, where you can find Adzuki Bean Tempeh, Cultured Nut Cheese, Sauerkraut, Kvass, Cultured Coconut water and creams, veggie starts, Honey Jun, the best of rare fruits and veggies, fresh pressed juices, acai bowls...the list goes on. Make sure to arrive by 7 a.m. to get the best stuff! It's great for the whole family, there are clean bathrooms, ATM's nearby at Long's drugstore, and plenty of room for kids to run around next door in the soccer fields.
Yum, yum and more yum plus so much aloha! First up, an incredible health shot with freshly! pressed! Maui grown turmeric.
