The Valley View Family Tavern

Passed through Lyndonville on the way to Quebec City. Had dinner here and breakfast the next morning at the famous Miss Lyndonville Diner. I notice, every time I travel in the US that once you are a good hour or two from any major metropolis, you are in the country. It could be two hours north of Detroit or two hours east of LA, but you are in the country. I relaxed and observed the scene: country music, rodeo talk, boots and buckles and baseball caps with farm machine logos. But since its New England, you also get the North Face jackets with rubber Wellington boots. It was cool. You can spot this place as a former Big Boy 's. Its just that Big Boy has a green and gold outfit painted on him. Local colors of Lyndon State maybe? An NFL (Patriots) game was on, but the volume was muted for the country music. Two main rooms, one was strictly dining and had a buffet, and the other was a U shaped bar facing a TV, then a sun-room type addition facing some trees and wooded area. OK, this salad bar in Lydonville, Vermont had kimchi, so having lived in LA for almost half my life how could I not have some? It was OK. I went with the $7.49 chicken pie with biscuits special. As you might guess, very hearty and filling. It was basically chicken pot pie filling (chicken, carrots, celery, green beans, peas, pearl onions) with biscuits baked into the dish and cranberry jelly on the side. I washed it down with a couple pints of Long Trail Ale (my favorite beer now . . . the closest we can find in LA in taste/appearance is probably Smithwick 's). They also had Swtichback (another Vermont brew) on tap. I finished with a slice of blackberry pie and coffee. The menu had nachos and oriental noodle salad , so I guess I wasn 't that far from LA after all.

On our way back from Canada on July 22nd 2014 we decided to grab a quick bite to eat. We found this little gem via our iPhone and were not disappointed. I ordered the Cheeseburger club and poutine. Both were delicious. What impressed us even more than the great food was the amazing wait staff. I can't say enough about how attentive, happy, smiling, courteous and pleasant. I was so impressed with them that I requested to speak with the owner so I could commend him on his staff.

Very similar overall to the popular nearby Miss Lyndonville Diner. Average and forgettable breakfast, nothing special and nothing wrong. And nice staff. However, I'd choose Valley View over Miss Lyndonville, because the space is a bit nicer, more spacious, especially with the greenhouse area with pleasant enough view. Has a full bar, if that's important to you. Food 4 ambiance 4 value 7 service 7 overall 4.8 /10 (forgettable)

I have frequented this restaurant many times, it's a personal favorite. It's simple, not fancy food. This place is wonderful for a family, not only because it's kid friendly but it is easy on the wallet. The food is fresh, many of the things are made locally, like the desserts, or in house. The portions are large, so you know you'll have lunch for tomorrow. I've always had great waitstaff, everything is clean. If there's a problem, they take care of you. If you love gourmet food maybe this isn't up your alley, but this is good and filling pub fare with a HUGE menu! Save room for dessert!

Kim chee on the salad bar. The food is very good. They have a full bar. We had the Rib eye steak and took home so much that we got 2 more meals out of it. Their home made Sangria is excellent. It's also a very large portion. The hand cut fries are worth the extra calories. Make sure you try them with their gravy.
