Consistently good relaxed food, quiet enough to talk with good food in a pleasant atmosphere.
Hatchets is a former popular restaurant in Hatch End that is facing tough competition from other themed restaurants in the area. To stay afloat, it needs to simplify its menu and cut costs. Five years ago, a two-course meal per person cost £21, but now it's only £19. Despite the decent food, there were only a few customers, and the dining area had a noticeable smell of body odor.
I visited Hatchetts, so I knew the food was a good standard. Also this time I was not dissapointed, but felt that the service was not his usual standard, they were a bit mean on the vegetables. Usually you get a part of vegetables between two, but since there were five of us, we were given two portions that were really not enough. I would like to have a selection of sauces for my fillet steak, but there was only peppercorn that is not my favorite. The starters were however excellent, although we were incredibly disappointed to see that the crispy duck starter was no longer on the menu, as this was popular earlier, but the Caremelised Brie was tasty netherthless! All in all, it was a beautiful evening.
We had a superb evening food, service, ambience and value were excellent, and we will certainly return.
