Bidrage med feedbackThe Purple Snapper is one of the few resorts with a swimming pool and it was lovely being able to dive in every morning for a quick swim after a relaxing night's sleep. The manager noticed I liked to swim and asked if I would like to be transferred next to the pool. Philippine hospitality all the way.
This restaurant is nothing like it used to be. We stayed at this resort on a recommendation from a friend and was very disappointed. The food was not good at all... overpriced and quality is very low. Breakfast starts at 7 am but the cook never arrived until 7.30 to 8 am. The cook had to be called for lunch every day while we waited. Until it has a new owner I would stay away!
We stayed here after staying at another resort on the island for one night, the difference for a similar price was huge. The beds are in beach huts, with mosquito nets and the bathrooms are shared. The staff were lovely and everything was generally clean. We did a dive with this resort and this being my first dive ever, I found the instructor (a lady from spain) was very patient and a great teacher making it a great dive. The only thing I would say is that you can get food cheaper elsewhere, although as they were in the process of renovating and re-establishing the place when we were there, I would be interested to return and see the changes since we visited.
This place is hell.,rooms is good ,but neighborhood roosters? Think again. Restaurant dont have anything but a little lady that don't even have a knowledge in whats happening around her. No receptionist to ask for some issues, but the lady again that is in the restaurant. No divemaster, ugly and unclean sorroundings. Just don't waste your money here.
Having never stayed in the Purple Snapper rooms, nor gone diving with them, this review only applies to the restaurant: simply put, it's dreadful. I've been to Malapascua numerous times, and even ate at this place once before. It was nothing to write home about, but i had a vague memory that it was alright (perhaps due to the cheap and very generously dosed rum and coke?) This time however, i was so appalled by the quality of the food that here i am writing my very first review on Tripadvisor. Until you read positive reviews showing that something has been done to improve this state of affairs, please don't eat here: you'll just end up feeling ripped off and disappointed. The so-called "best burger on the island" turned out to be a patty of cheap minced beef (tendons and who knows what else included), stuffed between two pieces of dense bread which could only have been old or just defrosted. I am fully aware that cheese here in the Philippines has a broader definition than it does in my homeland France, but should one charging 'international' prices not provide produce to match? A gooey orange sauce will never be cheese in my books. Speaking of deceiftul misnomers, the 'bruschetta' and hummus turned out to be a few crushed chick peas with slices of margarine drenched toast(?!)... and the mango shake (gracefully served by the staff after we had refused a pineapple shake which seemed to contain something milky, a lot of sugar, but not a trace of fruit) was watered down to the point where detecting the exquisite flavor of filipino mangoes required a fair amount of concentration. To top it all off, the sand covered ground had us thinking of a cat litter box much more than it did a beach; but perhaps that had something to do with the hoards of flies buzzing around?Again: i have been living in this country for nearly two years, i love a lot of things here and not least the food: balut, barbecued chicken intestines, you name it. I certainly wouldn't call myself squeamish when it comes to food and setting, and my taste buds are far from upper class. I do, however, entertain a clear dislike for false pretenses and prices way out of line with the quality of whatever is being sold. The bottom line is that leaving this place i felt unhealthy (not to say nauseous) and cheated. And i do not wish this on anyone who is simply looking for a good, enjoyable meal.
