Bidrage med feedbackTerrible service. I've come here for years and always had a great time, but I brought my daughter with me in early December and the usual waitress was completely rude and all but ignored my child. I had the Shepards pie though and it was the best I've ever had from here. Not sure if I was just very hungry or it had been improved but I was very happy!
The first time we stopped at the Ormsby Schoolhouse we were on a ATV ride and there were 11 of us, Felt a little out of place at first, but the staff made us feel right at home, It is amazing to look at all the history this little building holds. It has now become a family Tradition to go there every Thanksgiving for soup or just tea and desserts. My husband and I along with 2 aunts went to the Christmas reading of Dicken's A Christmas Carol. Dinner was excellent and the atmosphere was awesome. Definitely check this palace out. The menu is not huge but something for everyone.
This tea room not only has good food but the whole experience is worth the visit. There is a lot of history that is shared by the staff. Lunch was delightful, served in a quaint fashion. Sandwich tray has delicate little sandwiches, cut into shapes, order is placed on a chalk board by visitor, all food is home made. Endless kinds of tea available, served in a china teapot & cup & saucer. Our second visit included 2 men, who also enjoyed the experience. There were more robust foods available for them. While in the area, a visit to the Old Hastings Mercantile Store is also a must & just a few steps from the Schoolhouse.
Charming period school house with authentic décor and a menu reminiscent of "the Empire". A variety of teas served in large pots and a full English cream tea available in the afternoon. Loved the little sandwiches in interesting cookie-cutter shapes, including teapots. Home-made pie was just out of the oven and delicious. No wine and beer license but it's not consistent with the atmosphere anyway. Planning to go again soon!
I've been to the Old Ormsby Schoolhouse several times, and have always enjoyed myself. My last visit to the Schoolhouse was in September 2015, and my group included five adults and two young children. The food was delicious and the portions were generous, the staff were friendly and the location is very unique. It's a reasonable drive from Bancroft, Ontario and if you're in the area at a cottage - stop in for a meal & a great change of scenery! I'd check their website for current hours :)
