Le Bouchon Wine - Lewisham

This is a nice wine bar has a good range of cheeses but wine prices are astronomical. I recently ordered a small glass of pinot noire the small was very small indeed the price an eye watering £10.20! For that price I can buy a full bottle of pinot noir from The Wine Society! the Hare Billet just round the corner serves a delicious pinot noir at modest cost in its welcoming friendly bar.

We went for a family dinner for seven, including two children. Although the menu is limited, the food was incredible. There is no separate children’s menu, but half portions of most dishes, although with only duck or boeuf bourguignon for the main (and they don’t do half duck portions so it would need two kids to have the same). Starters were a mix between us of French onion soup, snails and a baked Camembert. Portion size was perfect as a starter. Mains were one duck and the rest boeuf bourguignon, which again were sensibly sized. Desserts were shared, but we tried the Tarte Tatum and the chocolate fondant, both of which were amazing? Wines were good and we left feeling suitably full but not bloated. A wonderful meal and an absolute gem of a restaurant.

Loved our evening here, as we always do. Great wine, even better staff. Having worked in the service industry for years (and hopefully being decent humans! our only criticism is that the owners leave the team critically under staffed. They are working so unbelievably hard and shouldering the pressure from all the customers on a very busy evening. I hope the owners wise up before they lose great people and custom. I have visited Le Bar a Vin twice now and find it to be a lovely spot with a pleasant ambience. The staff are very accommodating and have been understanding when changes needed to be made to the booking. I would definitely recommend Le Bar a Vin for a date night or quiet drink with friends.

Excellent venue have been coming here for the last 2 years since a change in ownership and it is always top notch great selection of wines from a number of countries. The service is always exemplary and the recent introduction of various musical acts especially Ciro) has only improved the bar Thoroughly recommended !
