Bidrage med feedbackWe were looking for something with good T/A ratings that was out of the tourist center. This place seemed to fit the bill. Unfortunately, it appears the restaurant has become tourist unfriendly. We arrived at 8:30 and the place was empty. The waiter/owner gave us menus and told us he was out of lamb speaking a mile a minute. He was on us five minutes later looking for our order. We picked out the starters but needed more time for the rest. He got quite excited when I didn 't communicate this in fluent Spanish. We were not up for a huge meat orgy so we stuck with entrantes. We had: Verduras a la plancha Mollejas de ternera a la parrilla Morcilla de León Ensalada de perdiz escabechada Chorizo curado de Geras de Gordón The dishes were good but not great; the sweetbreads had no seasoning and the morcilla had some peculiar spice in it (cumin? . The wine list did have good variety at reasonable prices. We had a Bodegas y Viñedos Maurodos San Romàn Toro and a Dominio de Tares Estay Prieto Picudo. Things got sketchy when the bill came. We were charged for 3 bottles of water although we only had two. Then, the credit card receipt was in USD rather than Euros, at an FX rate that was poor and included a commission. (This may have been an honest mistake on his part. All in all, this was not worth the walk from the center of town.
Perhaps we went at the right time (early June) but I don 't recognise the comments about poor service or being overpriced. We were recommended this restaurant by the people at the Parador and believe they were right. It was quiet at 8:30 on a Saturday night, but that is early for the Spanish to eat; it was still quiet after 10 when we left, but then we found that there was an important football match that night so the owner didn 't expect many till after 10:30. So, we got his full attention, lots of information and a tour of the cooking area. He gets his meat only from trusted suppliers and then hangs it himself (you can see some near the entrance), so it isn 't pink and poor like in the supermarkets. Most of the food is just grilled, including the vegetable platter, but done perfectly... as someone else said, the ingredients are allowed to speak for themselves. A single meat 'dish ' is plenty for 2 with some vegetables. My wife is not fond of large amounts of meat but she loved this, and certainly did it justice. OK, 90 Euros (including a decent red wine and coffees) isn 't cheap, but we certainly felt it was well worth it.
If you want to have a good grilled meat, that's the place. The wines are good, and the rpices are reasonable. But the service is poor and slow. There is an excessive food smell. It does not deserve the current ranking.
