Il Nido - Laveno-mombello

I think I was there before it opened properly. The drop down menu starts in January 2015 but we visited November 2014. The owner is an ex-gardener who talked very enthusiastically about his search for authenticity. He is really interested in what the locals were eating a hundred or so years ago. He mentioned special types of grain and made some bread for us over an open fire in a pair of tongs. A nice peaceful place. No traffic noise and space to sit outside.

We were absolutely astounded by the quality and care we got from family run Il Nido. We had just finished a hike and were very hungry and had been arrived quite late to their wonderful restaurant. They were more than happy to take us on and we were very catering to our requirements as I am a vegetarian! Despite a small language barrier, Alberto was very helpful and explained all the dishes extremely well. The food was divine. We ended up getting 3 courses as we just couldn't stop eating their food! Excellent dishes made in the real Italian way. To top it all off, we were seated upstairs beside open balcony doors which revealed an unbelievable view of Lake Maggiore. Alberto was such a gentleman he had given all of us a lift down in his car through the mountain and taken us near our apartment as it had gotten so dark! His wife was also a very charming and extremely welcoming! A truly excellent service with fantastic food. Highly recommend!

We had a lovely time there for a family dinner. Our hosts were very friendly and accommodating. The food was good, especially the risotto, but we didn't try the full menu. The views and atmosphere were exceptional. However, the drive up the hill was hair raising.

Il Nido is a very charming place nestled in a natural setting from which you can have nice lake views. Food was delicious and the staff very friendly. It felt like being at home! The last part of the road to get there is a bit tricky (very steep) but well worth the effort.

We found Il Nido through Trip Advisor and are so happy we picked this place! It was perfection from the gorgeous views, rustic charm, and completely delicious food. The homemade gelato with berry sauce is not to be missed. I hope that I will get back to Laveno soon so I can visit Il Nido again. Thank you Christina!
