Bidrage med feedbackMy wife and me decided for the first day of 2019 to cross the Alps and to go on a hike at Switzerland 's sunny side, the Ticino. For lunch again, seeing how much was closed, we chose to cross the river Tresa into Italy. We remembered a good Chinese meal we once had here, 8 years ago, at a place called 'Nuovo Secolo '. But this time we bumped into another Chinese restaurant, called 'Ponte Rosso ', where again we got excellent food. Already the atmosphere looked pleasant, with a lot of wood and many chinoiseries. For a January 1st there were quite a few customers in here, but we got a table for two by the window with a real bromelia next to us. Unlike the 'Nuovo Secolo ', which advertises Chinese and Thai dishes, here it is Japanese and Chinese with narurally also sushi available as we saw. There was as usual a very big selection offered in the menu card (in Italien and English), but we decided to go for a fixed menu for 2, the one based mainly on 'Gamberetti ' (shrimps) and 'Gamberoni ' (prawns). To drink we ordered a big pot of Japanese green tea and mineral water. To start we were first brought towels and chopsticks, but the waiter also asked us if we preferred fork and knife, which we declined. Next came the beverages and some pickled cabbage. After that, without ever being rushed, but also never having to wait too long, we got an 'Involtino primavera ' (spring roll), followed first by 'Rollini di Gamberi ', second by 'Ravioli di Gamberi ', third by 'Spaghetti di Soia con Gamberi ', before the arrival of the three main courses: 'Gamberetti alla Piastra ', 'Pollo in Salsa Agrodolce ' and 'Riso Gamberi e Verdure '. All was excellently prepared, beautifully presented and naturally it was far more than we could eat, so we skipped the 'Dolce a scelta ' and just went for an Espresso, which was from the roastery 'Varesina ' in not far away Varese.
2 days ago we went in ponte rossa for chinese dinner. It was very good, tasty and fast : i always go there with a pleasure :
As North Americans, we are accustomed to Chinese food being relatively inexpensive. This is not the case in Ticino (Switzerland), and we can never get used to the prices. Ponte Rosso is a quick trip over the border into Italy from Switzerland, and the food is better than we've found in Lugano. We order the Hot and Sour Soup (Zuppa Agropiccante) and Fried Dumplings (Ravioli Brasati) every time, and then experiment with everything else. We've actually found their sushi to be better than the Chinese food. In the six years we've lived here, we've gone to this restaurant at least twenty times. They're great for large groups and also for families with kids.
Ottima cucina cinese/thailandese.
Ottima cucina, personale e gerenti molto gentili e professionali Bravi!!!!
