Gray Dog Diner - Lakewood

I recently had the displeasure of attempting to work at gray dog diner. I say attempt, because I signed up for what I thought was a cook position. Apparently they don 't staff a dishwasher everyday, despite being open 7 days a week. On my second day of training I was told to help with the dishes as there was no dishwasher scheduled, so I go to work on the dishes. I was asked twice to go stay in the back of house and wash dishes while I was supposed to be learning the front of house. When I expressed my concern, that I would like to be training in the area I applied for, I was told to not come back the following day, because the person who was supposed to train me ,would be training someone else in a different department, and the other cook was not coming in so there would be no one to train me . This morning I receive a text saying I 'm fired, and can pick up my 2 days of pay in cash, in person. Upon entering the building both cooks, and the dishwasher was present, and working. This not only confirmed I was lied to, but also confirmed a double standard . If a second cook was available so a prep person could train properly without interference, why not have a dishwasher present so an actual foh cook could train properly without interference.

This place is SO good. Just a simple eggs and toast breakfast is excellent, but be sure to get the corned beef (I got the Eagle Breakfast, which includes all of the above). If you get toast it comes with this beautiful house-made jam that just spills onto the toast. Wonderful, and cozy vibes.

This has been my favorite little diner since I moved to lakewood 3 years ago. Recently they must have gotten a new cook because the past 3 times the portions and quality have been off and everything is burnt! Today it was nearly inedible because the mushrooms tasted like charcoal! Will stay away for awhile now.

I always forget this place is here due to its location, tucked away, but it has good food. Ordered the basic breky (eggs, toast, hash, bacon), coffee wasnt even bad. Definitely check this place out.

Foods always great for being just what it is a simple diner with a couple tables. The service is just fine and acceptable and the atmosphere is what it is but with all that being said I consider it five stars for being exactly what it is no more no less
