Bidrage med feedbackWe were doing the Rota tapas trail in Lagoa. From the outside we wouldn't have normally gone in. However we were so pleased we did. What a wonderful welcome and amazing experience. The food was SO tasty. We were given such a hospitable welcome. A SMALL glass of wine was of goid quality and full to the brim. The sandwich with chips was delicious. All for €3 total. Then the 9yr old son of the establishment gave us simple lessons in Portuguese. My husband remarked he had never heard Fado. The owner's daughter all of 12 yrs old took a drink of water then gave a remarkable rendition which was breath taking especially from one so young. What a unique experience. THANKYOU.
Pastelaria A Paragem was suggested to us by the receptionist at our time share accommodation, being the only place they knew of in the area of Carvoeiro where we could hear fado. Externally, the restaurant is unimpressive but inside it is bright and modern. The delightful family owners have had the pastelaria for only a month and made us, a party of five, most welcome. The menu offers a limited choice, all excellent Portuguese fare at most reasonable prices. No charge for fado though, not unreasonably, one is expected to spend at least 10 Euro per head. Fado can be heard only on Friday evenings, starting a little after 2100, by which time they prefer that main courses have been consumed. The first singer was a remarkably talented young lady of just eleven years she has appeared on Portuguese television, followed by more mature female and male singers, with sublime accompaniment provided by guitarra and viola (Spanish style guitar) and, later, by the owner's father on guiarra. Perhaps not appealing to all musical tastes, Fado is an integral part of Portuguese culture. If you have never been to a fado evening, this is a great place to start! This was the last evening of our holiday, a truly memorable occasion. Pastelaria A Paragem is highly recommended and we thank the family and fellow diners for their genuine warmth and hospitality.
