This small bead of a restaurant is one of the best kept secrets of the ardèche, which lies directly in front of the aubenas to alès, at the lachapelle sous aubenas. it is located in the building of the once small rural railway station and has been run by christophe verney for almost years. we went soon after the opening because a catering student we knew had a placement there. she said it was the cleanest restaurant she had ever seen and the best placement she had on her cure! with such a recommendation we could not resist and are never disappointed. the restaurant is tastefully decorated and makes the best of its location. christophe is highly professional and makes all its customers welcome. the menu is diverse and interesting, with many local ingredients. it offers a delicious and interesting lunch menu for every day. this is much better than many of the other restaurants in the opposite, which are especially for tourist who are more and less due. many of his customers are natives who eat there regularly. christoph also offers meals to take away and serve at home, which is ideal for a self-catering holiday. I love his pomme/cannelle desert. so much that we have ordered enough for people for birthday. we have been eating there since the opening and visit the ardèche several times during each visit. we are never disappointed. in summer there is an outdoor terrace to make the best of the wonderful ardèche weather. in the winter months we enjoyed a warm open fire. try it.

This little pearl of a restaurant is one of the Ardèche's best kept secrets, located just off the Aubenas to Alès by pass, at Lachapelle sous Aubenas. It is housed in the building of what was once a tiny rural railway station and has been run by Christophe Verney for almost 20 years. We first went soon after it opened because a catering student we knew had a placement there. She said it was the cleanest restaurant she had ever seen as well as being the best placement she had on her course! With such a recommendation we could not resist and we are never disappointed.The restaurant is tastefully decorated and makes the most of its bijou location. Christophe is highly professional and makes all his clients welcome. The menu is varied and interesting, using many locally sourced ingredients. He provides a tasty and interesting set lunch menu for €13.50 each day. This is far better value than many of the other restaurants in the area that are mainly for tourists which charge more and give less. Many of his clients are locals who lunch there regularly. Christoph also provides meals to take away and serve at home, which is ideal on a self catering holiday. I love his pomme/cannelle desert. So much so that we ordered enough for 12 people for my 60th birthday. We have been eating there since it was opened and visit several times on each visit to the Ardèche. We are never disappointed. In the summer, there is an outside terrace to make the most of the wonderful Ardèche weather. In the winter months we have enjoyed a warm open fire. Do give it a try.
