Restaurante Candilejas - La Ceja

La Ceja is a small, growing, mining community about an hour outside Medellin, Colombia. It is an area where there are also many Roman Catholic seminars and convents. The city enjoys an impressive growth boost as more people move from the city to the country, either as a weekend destination or as an acceptable option for commuters in closer parts of Medellin or Rio Negro, where the airport is located. Candilejas is a central restaurant offering a wide range of traditional dishes. We ordered the empanadas, patacones with hogao and guacamole, pan de queso, a baked and fried fish fillet and a butterflied double fillet cooked by locally caught trout on a grill. Everything was wonderfully cooked and quickly put on the table by a friendly and very attentive waiting staff. Most drinks were local soda, or beer, or aguardiente, which flavored local anis “fire water”, literally. The espresso had a deep, rich taste and the fudge cake that caught our eye as soon as we enter, was presented with a rich but not too sweet pudding like Fudge Icing drop slightly down the sides, and thin caramel mid between the two cakes. It was delicious and decadent. There were four of us and we all enjoyed our meals. If you are in Medellin, use the opportunity to find your way to La Ceja and if you do enjoy the newly renovated (still in construction) central place, the picturesque city, the local craftsmen, and definitely the wonderful food in Candilejas! El restaurante Candilejas es el restaurante que visito con más frecuencia. Normalmente almuerzo en Candilejas 2-3 veces por semana. He probado muchos restaurantes en La Ceja y siempre regreso a Candilejas por la calidad y el precio de la comida y el excelente servicio. Siempre está lleno de residentes locales que saben dónde encontrar buena comida a buen precio.

I spent a week in La Ceja on a business trip; I have to eat in different restaurants every day. That was okay. Your espresso was pretty good.
