Upon arrival, I showed my email to an employee who quickly arranged a table for me. The chef prepared a veganized version of their rice bowl, substituting fish stock for a soy-based sauce. The food was delicious, with fresh yuba and silk tofu served with a clear soup made from konbu stock. I also enjoyed pickles and a variety of tofu dishes, including a soy milk tree cake for dessert. Despite the language barrier, the staff was friendly and helpful, providing an English menu to assist me. I recommend contacting the restaurant in advance to request a vegetarian-friendly option, as many dishes traditionally contain fish dashi and Bonito flakes. Reservations are recommended, especially during peak hours. Additionally, the restaurant offers souvenirs including traditional cinnamon cookies, soy milk wagashi, and beautiful calendars featuring their mascot rabbit. I had a great experience dining here and also recommend trying their soy milk donuts at the Nishiki market. Overall, a must-visit for vegans and tofu lovers alike!
I had a set lunch meal for $19. It included 4 plates with a combination of small and large portions. There were broth pieces with fish sauce to cleanse the palate. It was very filling due to the high soy content. The flavors were straightforward. While I probably wouldn't return, I'm happy I gave it a try.
My group stumbled upon this café by accident and decided to give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful atmosphere and the tasty tofu dishes and desserts. It's worth noting that some dishes may contain egg, and there is one dish with ham, but overall the menu seems to be mostly vegetarian. We also appreciated that they sell fish stocks in their store to ensure fish-free options. Just a heads up, the location on the map is incorrect - the café is actually closer to Kita no Tenmangu Shrine. If you follow the map, you'll end up at Flafelgarten instead.
