Zhen Xiang Zhai - Kuching

I revisited this restaurant three times in 2015 and had no problems. The service was quick, the staff was friendly, and they had no issues serving me laksa without egg. I wasn't a fan of the buffet, so I stuck with the laksa each time, which was good. Based on these experiences, I have upgraded my rating from 2 stars to 3 stars. My previous experience in 2011 was not as pleasant, as there was a misunderstanding with the menu and I received a dish that was not what I had ordered. The communication barrier was a challenge, but I wanted to alert others to the possibility of unexpected outcomes when dining here.

I had been wanting to visit this restaurant, especially after reading a review that mentioned they make Laksa. I was hesitant at first because there was no menu displayed and I was concerned about potential language barriers. However, I was pleased to be welcomed by an English-speaking man upon arrival who was knowledgeable about dairy and egg-free options. The food arrived quickly and my wife confirmed that the flavors were true to authentic Sarawak Laksa. I really enjoyed my experience here and am considering returning tomorrow.

I tried the laksa at this restaurant and I highly recommend it. The dish is a signature of Serawak and usually contains multiple animal species, but I was able to try a vegetarian version that was very tasty. You can ask for it without egg to make it vegan. I didn't sample the buffet, but it looked like typical southern Chinese cuisine with the added bonus of curry. It's worth asking about the ingredients in the curry to see if it contains milk. I had a positive experience with the staff who were friendly, helpful, and spoke English proficiently. I didn't encounter any communication issues like the reviewer below mentioned.

Super friendly service, they provide rice and you can help yourself to an array of mock meat stir fry dishes. They also serve laksa and a few other items. Highly recommend for a cheap vegetarian feed.

Food is average, clean and inexpensive for Chinese buffet lunch. Friendly owner. Business hour start from 6.30am. Next to police station in kuching's china town.
