Bidrage med feedbackI hadn't had a true German Eis in over 20 years so when my cousin suggested we stop here in the middle of her showing me the grand cologne tour I said yes! It was a lovely day...sunny and warm so we sat on the terrace overlooking the Markdt. I had trouble choosing from all the decadent choices but decided on the hazelnut Eis, partially because it looked smaller. And, I love hazelnuts! Our waitress was very prompt in getting us, took our orders for Eis and coffee and returned right away with both. Oh my... Good coffee...strong and robust! The Eis dishes were very generous. I particularly had tons of hazelnuts as well as three respectable sizes of ice cream! My only negative was that I thought the mountain of whipped cream (sahne) was a third again as much as it needed to be. Prices were reasonable and if you come at noon, you can watch the statue of the former mayor of the town on the Clock tower stick his tongue out I'm time with the chime of 12!
Craving some ice cream and while walking through the old city this place was really the only ice cream place and with all the flavors thought I would give it a try. The ice cream is pricey was the quality is good. Very creamy and the waffle cone it comes in is good also. I had the Tiramisu and Pistachio ice cream. The Tiramisu was ok, didn't have a strong coffee flavor like I enjoy. The pistachio I enjoyed more but still not a strong flavor. They had other flavors I wish I would have tried but maybe I should just choose some other ice cream place. I had my two favorite flavors and left disappointed which I think is a sign.
So glad we found this cafe because most places that are still open at 10pm in Cologne are bars and pubs full of people. We just wanted some dessert at a more quiet area. The strawberry milkshakes were very refreshing and not too sweet which I liked. The ice cream spaghetti really looked like spaghetti so the picture in the menu isn't a lie. I had only seen this online before and never thought we'd just stumble on somewhere randomly and have the chance to try it. I'm happy we did. It was very good. The ice cream was pretty sweet and the tart berries balanced it well. Big portion , perfect for 2 to share.
Last weekend with two girls in Marco Polo to perfect coffee specialities. Anyone who likes can also take an iceball (or more) from the numerous variants. The operation was impeccable and very friendly. However, it was full to wait a few minutes (Sunday morning). However, they were quite rewarded.
Spaghetti eis is a thing. That's kinda weird. But it's really good, it imparts a unique texture. The whole old-town area is really nice, and this fits right in. Pleasant staff, nice location, good ice cream.
